https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/08/politics/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-chuck-schumer-2022-cnntv/index.html

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez does not know what her political future holds – and that includes whether she might challenge Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in a 2022 primary.

Asked by CNN’s Dana Bash if she is considering a campaign against her fellow New Yorker next year, Ocasio-Cortez said she had not seriously considered it, but also stopped short of ruling out a run.

“I know it drives everybody nuts. But the way that I really feel about this, and the way that I really approach my politics and my political career is that I do not look at things and I do not set my course positionally,” Ocasio-Cortez told Bash in “Being…AOC,” the first episode of the new CNN series “Being…” that airs Monday night at 9 p.m. ET.

If this has the effect of preventing Schumer from moving too much toward the center/right, then I would still consider it a good thing, regardless of whether AOC herself actually jumps in and/or succeeds in the primary challenge.

There is no chance she challenges Schumer and if she did, there is no chance she’d win

And I'm not gonna rule out challenging Rick Scott myself in 2024, but that doesn't mean that it's gonna happen.

AOC probably would beat Schumer, but not in 2022.

2028, on the other hand...

It's more likely Schumer retires in 2028. He'll be close to 80 then and been majority leader. It's not getting any "better" and I'm not sure he wants to be a lifer.

This feels like bait to keep him on edge. But if she did challenge him, she'd lose by a wide margin. Schumer isn't Engel, Crowley, or Clay. He's a very engaged retail politician who never gets lazy, even when he's running safe races. He also has five times the cash on hand that she does and has no reason not to spend it in the primary.

I would love it if she got baited into giving up her safe seat to try this, but I doubt it.

I also haven't ruled out trying to get on the ballot for the Dem primary in my state house district but being a poor college student I find it unlikely I can raise the 200$ just to get on the ballot

I really don't think she'll go through with this. If she's going to run for the seat it will be when Schumer retires.

Given how happy she was to see him when he came out to their eviction protest last week, to thank them, I highly doubt that she's going to challenge him. If anything, she seems to respect him. But I wouldn't be surprised if Ocasio-Cortez goes for his seat when he retires-which may be as soon as 2028.

definitely. As much as some folks try to make her seem, she's not stupid, so she wouldn't do something career-ending like this.

Click bait headline. Headline could just as well be "Ocasio-Cortez said she had not seriously considered challenging Schumer."

BTW I think it is frowned upon to post entire articles.

She should threaten to run all the way up until the filing deadline and then not run. Schumer probably does not want to go toe to toe with the 2nd most well known Rep in the country and hopefully we can get some concessions.

This is going to be a thoroughly uncompetitive and unimportant race, but funnily enough I have seen some campaigning from one of the candidates.

I went to the State Fair in Syracuse last weekend, and it turns out that they'll just give a booth to anyone who wants one. I know this because there was a Diane Sare for Senate booth. For those who don't know (probably 99.9% of the NY population), Diane Sare is the candidate of the Lyndon LaRouche Movement, which has somehow managed to get ballot access. I didn't realize any of these guys were still left after LaRouche's journey to the great labor committee in the sky in 2019.

Judging from the campaign materials she advocates a seemingly random assortment of crackpot policies in typical LaRouche fashion. Highlights include: Building a bridge across the Bering Strait, Pulling the United States out of NATO and allying with Russia, Requiring the teaching of classical music from kindergarten onwards in schools, Re-establishing the Bretton Woods system of international finance, Completing the North American Power and Water Alliance, Colonizing Mars, and Imprisoning Chuck Schumer. In typical crackpot fashion, her campaign maintains an insane level of optimism and seems to truly believe that Sare will win "once she finally gets to defeat Chuck Schumer in debate".

All things considered, it was an interesting view into the depths of political insanity, even if this campaign is obviously going absolutely nowhere in November.

If AOC ever runs for Senate it will in an Open Seat Scenario (that's how Hillary Clinton got elected in 2000) or a Primary Challenge to Kirsten Gillibrand. Gillibrand is a weaker Opponent in NYC but a stronger Candidate in Upstate NY.
