All eyes on muon and bore unless someone new steps in to face TimTurner.
If you're needing someone to step in as a replacement, I'd be willing to.

People are jumping in and out of this game, so what the hell.

You play as black against TimTurner.
Righto, here's my chess.com account https://www.chess.com/member/Nyx6

Have sent him a challenge.
I have accepted the challenge. Quite some time ago. Apologies for not notifying you in this thread until now.
Welcome to the club (literally).
Thanks!

Congratulations to muon, who comprehensively outclassed me in our game.

Thanks. You played a strong game, bore. I had to give a position a good think more than once (the rook sac was inspired even though it didn't work). Your play was definitely above the rating you have on chess.com, certainly closer to 1200 than 800 IMO.

So one game to go until the next round?

Round 3 is almost complete, and the request this round is to explain more about scoring. patzer's entry caused some rethinking about late entries which are incorporated here.

The main score is straightforward and it is based on wins, losses and draws. Each win counts 1 point, each draw counts one half point, and a loss counts zero points.

A win (1 point) results from one of the following: checkmate, time out by the opponent, or a resignation by the opponent. In those cases the opponent is awarded a loss (0 points).

A draw (0.5 points for each player) results from one of the following: a stalemate position - one where a player is unable to make a legal move and is not in check, a three-fold repetition - a  position that occus three times with the same player to move, insufficient material to checkmate, 50 consecutive moves by each player with no capture or pawn move, or draw by agreement.

There are special rules about scoring for players who do not face an opponent each round.
A. A player who enters the tournament after the first round is awarded 0.5 points for each round missed. For tie breaks they are assumed to have played an opponent (late entry) in the missed rounds who scored 0.5 points in each round.
B. A player who withdraws from the tournament is awarded 0.5 points for each round following the withdrawal, but only for tie breaks.
C. A player who gets a bye and faces no opponent is awarded 1 point for a win. For tie breaks they are presumed to play an opponent who enters that bye round with the same score and then receives 0.5 for each round after the bye.

Here's the current score chart by round

Thanks Muon2 for being an amazing GM as always (Although I get that Scott is technically running the game).

Remember how you deftly handled substitutions and changes in the Diplomacy Games so love it how you explain the rules and clarify as needed.

Amazed to see that I am currently listed as #3.

I'm sorry, but can TimTurner and patzer please pick up the pace? We've been in this round for the better part of two months and you guys are only on turn 8.

I vote for flipping a coin and declaring a winner based on the coin toss.

Me and patzer are up to turn 12 now. I apologize if that's not quickly enough. This game started later than it should have been but it's been progressing probably normally fast now.

With the conclusion of round 3 I'll say something about tie breakers. These are only used at the end of the tournament and not for pairing.

There are special rules regarding scores for use in tie breaks. A player who gets a bye is presumed to be facing a dummy player with the same score as their score, and that dummy player has a score that increases by one half point each subsequent round. If a player withdraws from a tournament their position is also awarded a half point each following round for the benefit of players who faced that player before the withdrawal. A player who enters after the first round starts at a score of zero as if they lost in that round to a dummy player who won and then continues to get a half point in subsequent rounds after their initial "win" over the late entry.

There are two tie breakers commonly used to determine the final standings. The first is the Buchholz tie breaker (TB1) which is the sum of the scores of all opponents, and adding a half point each round to players who withdraw prevents players who faced withdrawn players from being penalized. The second is the Neustadl or Sonneborn-Berger tie breaker (TB2) which adds the scores of those defeated opponent to half the score of those who were drawn by the player. If two players are tied in the final standings and on both tie breakers, then their score against each other is a final tie breaker.

After three rounds this is the scoreboard:
pts   TB1   TB2   player
3   6   6   muon2
3   5   5   minionofmidas
2.5   3   2.25   NOVA Green
2   6   3   oakvale
2   5   2   AGA
2   4.5   1.5   bore
2   4.5   1.5   OBD
2   4.5   1.5   Ebowed
2   3.5   2   patzer
2   3   1   YPestis25
1   5.5   0.5   Mimoha
1   5   0.5   NewYorkExpress
1   4.5   0.5   HockeyDude
1   4   1   Scott
0.5   4.5   0.25   TimTurner
0.5   4.5   0.25   Abdullah

These are the players who have withdrawn and their scores for calculating tie breakers.
(0.5)         Ishan (withdrew before round 3)
(0.5)         morgieb (withdrew before round 3)
(0.5)         OSR (withdrew before round 3)
(1)         diptheriadan (withdrew before round 2)

HockeyDude says he "retired" so I guess I get a bye unless someone else jumps in. Our game of musical chairs resumes.

There are still lots of games yet to start, so we'll see if there are any other retirements.

The error was mine copying text to Scott. NYE vs Tim is already underway. I acknowledged the error to Scott and he should be posting or reaching out to you and AGA about how to proceed now that a bye is in play from HockeyDude's withdrawal.

Taking another look, it also appears that TimTurner was accidentally listed twice as well. And TimTurner is listed as black - twice, while AGA is also listed as black. If I do not take the bye, I play as black against bore. I know that I cannot play against AGA again because that is against the rules.

I'm very confused. I think I play against bore, but where does that leave TimTurner and AGA?

NYE and TimTurner have already started and that was intended without my error. I pm'ed AGA to say that I had mispasted some text that had bore in two games, and that he could chose to play bore as intended or take a bye and have you play bore (bore gets white either way). Who ever gets the bye is still available in case one of the other games doesn't start due to a withdrawal or a new player jumps in.
