The republicans should give it up now, it is late and Santorum is down by double digits, there isn't any hope, and I think SV and QU will confirm these results.

Well, that's all she wrote folks. Barring a Casey screw-up...I'd say we can mark this one off.

Don't count your chickens just yet. Santorum has at least 2 more big pushes in him - this is a race that the Dems and Casey need to stay vigilant with until the polls close on November 7th. That said - Casey has to be pleased by this poll and where he is right now - given his opponent.

Anything can happen yes, but I still say this race is over.  Those who say Santorum will win are just full of conservative/GOP optimism and are wishfully thinking. After the Meet the Press debate, his ad blitz, and tough talking against Casey...the best I have seen Santorum is 6 points behind. I just don't think he has it in him.

Remember Phil saying Santorum would be within 2 points after Labor Day?

He doesn't actually believe it, along with the rest of his "prediction" map.  He's just trying to incite, but that's alright.  He's cool.

Um, I do actually believe Santorum can still pull it out but the odds aren't looking great.

Santorum would have to win all the undecides which is about 7% to pull it off and that is almost impossible.

Casey would most likely have to do or say something totally outlandish in public for Santorum to have a real shot. Incumbent Senators don't get reelected polling in the high 30s this late in the game.

Why do so many conservatives seem to honestly believe that Santorum will win? Sure, he's a great closer, Casey is a poor campaigner, blah blah blah, but he's trailed in every single poll ever released. This isn't an Atlas-only phenomenon, either- I remember that Pat Buchanan and some witch from the National Review not only agreed that Santorum is an unstoppable force of nature, but that DeWine will be in more trouble at the end of the day.

Maybe the left would have acted similarly if Feingold had been in comparable danger two years ago; I don't know. But conservatives are about to cross the line from optimism to hackish delusion with their relentless Santorum-hyping. Tongue

Well said. I can't wait for the guy to just lose so we can stop the insanity.

That's different from thinking that Santorum will win.  I'm sure that if a gun was to your head you'd take Casey to win.  That's also true for Phil, Mitty, etc.
