Who are Mitch McConnell supporters?

I really don't understand the appeal of this guy, I really don't. I don't understand why Republicans have allowed him to be the Senate Republican Leader since 2007.

Who supports him and why? What do they see in him?

I mean, he is incredibly effective at cementing GOP power. That being said, you would think the GOP would choose someone more charismatic. Quite an interesting question.

He doesn't have to be popular, good-looking, or charming.  He's a strategist and his primary goal is to use Republican power to obtain a very specific agenda.

He simply doesn't give a s**t how he is perceived.

In all likelihood these people support McConnell because he shares their values on social conservatism, and McConnell always manages to paint himself as willing to cooperate with the other side whenever he is up for re-election (and the fact that his most recent opponents have run as Republicans in Democratic clothing has also helped him pad his winning margins).

He is an extremely strong and effective leader. Had he been the leader in the early 2000s,  Miguel Estrada would be confirmed for sure and the first Latino Justice.

A country club Republican seems to be the definition of a staunch McConnell supporter to me. That is, someone who is wealthy, well-educated, and well-connected, who is either a lobbyist for a powerful conservative organization, a prominent businessman, or a scion of a elite family that has fundraised for and donated to Republicans for decades.

Such a person would be a staunch fiscal conservative and would lean to the right culturally, although they wouldn't necessarily be an evangelical or a member of the Religious Right. Above all else, this person would be determined to advance Republican political interests at all costs, and like McConnell, they would dislike Trump personally but use him and his movement for their own purposes.
