Option 4, unfortunately, because that's the first time I heard of it. So imagine my reaction when I heard Thom Hartmann saying he had read "The Right Stuff" and complimented it.

The actor Scott Glenn wearing his cute little astronaut suit in that one movie (who he may or may not have been portraying John Glenn, who was a real life bad-ass).

In other words, spacemen.

None of those. I have never heard this expression in any context.

I have no idea what the OP is actually referring to, but I always thought that was fairly common lingo in military/defense/nerd circles.

"The Right Stuff" = slang for those who are accepted--and can successfully complete--the astronaut training pipeline.

I'm not a military/defense enthusiast, so I'd never heard it used as lingo or in any other context before coming across the blog during the alt-right's emerging stages.

Ed Harris played John Glenn.

Scott Glenn played Alan Shepard.

And to complete the name game, Sam Shepard played Chuck Yeager (who I once met briefly, about 40 years ago).  Now that was a bad-ass.  I highly recommend his autobiography, Yeager.

The movie, since I had to watch in a history class back in high school.

This, although it also reminded me of Weird Al's version "The White Stuff."
(Don't worry, it's not a white nationalist number.)

Spelt differently, but the British daytime television show The Wright Stuff, where there was a woman in a glass cage.

I do vaguely remember watching the movie ages ago, so there's that.

I have never heard of the phrase used in any other context, and certainly not the other three.
