What singular events, if changed in the timeline, would have led to Trump getting re-elected?

Just for a specific state, I remember before the election COVID was real bad in Wisconsin. If it wasn't as bad, maybe that gives Trump the ~10,500 vote swing he needed.

Circa March 1st, 2020 Trump tweets "All the government doctors are lying to you, wear a mask!"

If Derek Chauvin got off George Floyd, I believe Trump gets re-elected, even with all the Covid-stuff. The BLM protests in the summer really hurt the Republicans and Trump. For some time, the protests made Covid a secondary topic.

A COVID stimulus bill #2 clears Congress and/or Pfizer announces that it has a vaccine for COVID.

If he aggressively tackled the virus from the beginning, he would almost certainly have won. Remember how New Zealand aggressively tackled the virus and its voters thus awarded its ruling party with an increased majority in that year's election.

Health crisis with Joe Biden and that's about it. Competence from Donald Trump is beyond the realm of fantasy.

If he followed through on the recommendation for USPS to send masks to every household. Really can't believe he didn't go through with that, would've been a golden opportunity for his brand as well. Think of all the MAGAites that would eat up the chance to get a Trump 2020 mask.

1) The civil unrests post-Floyd were not just because of Floyd; it was also the Breonna Taylor and Ahmad Arbery incidents. Floyd was simply the straw that broke the camel's back.
2) Not convinced anyone necessarily changed their mind because of BLM even with events such as Romney of all people marching with protestors. Did it swing the election, or ultimately did it just pump up turnout for both sides even more? In fact, it may have been a precipitating factor (among other reasons) for the GOP surge with Latinos.

One could argue that backlash to COVID restrictions helped Trump. I think this

Trump can't send a MAGA mask to every household. You can't use federal funds for personal reasons like running a campaign

(If he flies Air Force One to a campaign event, he has to pay for gas)

If the CDC sent a mask to everyone in America, it would have to be bland or generic. At most, red white and blue

The vaccine announcements happening mere days before the election instead of mere days afterwards.

More in the vein of if Big T went in on masks.I mean yeah but he would just do it through Trump org/his campaign. And why would the Emoluments Clause stop him then of all times?

COVID was the golden opportunity Trump had for a rally-around-the-flag effort and he botched it in every way imaginable.

That was honestly a surprisingly strong message to have been made regarding the pandemic, and Democrats made a big mistake by dismissing it as a political loser. Luckily for them, Trump sabotaged that message with his “everything is fine” attitude. A more skilled Republican would have been much more effective with it.

Perhaps if it had been discovered that Biden used a private server as Vice President and deleted a bunch of emails, the media would've drowned out all the COVID coverage with that.

Why? What does that have to do with Trump and Republicans? They weren’t the ones who killed Floyd.

Also that led to the defund the police thing which one could argue helped trump and the GOP down ballot.

While I get where you coming from. This time around the media really hated Trump compared to 2016 and don't see Biden as their media cashcow compared to Hillary Clinton

It brought the subject of racism into the forefront, and historically, the Democrats’ bread and butter criticism of Republicans is that Republicans = racists. The race riots motivated typical-moderates and non-participants to vote Democrat, out of sympathy for Blacks. The subject caused sports leagues, store brands, streaming music services, and other odd places to issue statements in favor of BLM.

The backlash against defund the police wasn’t substantial. Polls in the summer showed 70-80% approval for BLM, a group that openly pushed defund the police. Most people became anti-police than otherwise, which again favored Democrats.

Opinions on that issue really began to swing towards Republicans by the end of the summer.

Trump in April 2020: "Hello Americans. I know it sucks being cooped up at home and having to wear uncomfortable masks in public places, but doing these things are important right now. We're confident we can lower the curve but we need your help. I'm afraid I'll have to stop holding rallies for the time being but I promise as soon as this pandemic starts to die down, We will have rallies like they've never been before! But we need to lower the curve before we can do that and the more you follow your state/local health orders, the sooner the pandemic will die down. Please, do the patriotic thing and help curb the spread of the virus!"

If that happened, he would've won more than likely.

The first initial transfer of the Covid virus back in 2019 to human doesn’t happen.

I'm generally not a believer that single events have that much sway in deciding an election, but it was a big mistake for Trump to punt on COVID relief talks before the election.
