This was a poll of Hispanics from last August, no idea if its more or less popular term among hispanics(probably on par with the rest of the population). It might have grown a little more since then but not much (maybe 5% now )

At the rate BRTD keeps bringing this up and talking about it, I'm guessing that it will be about 99% by the end of the year

In other news, I have seen polls that "Indians" prefer to be called "Indians," not "Native Americans." The "victims" themselves of this hateful and vicious caste system, suffer from the Stockholm Syndrome. Sad!

100%, even if 97% or so only does it to piss BRTD off.

What’s with the obsession with the term “LatinX”?

I have literally never heard that once in the real world. But I’ve seen like 5 threads dedicated to the topic

NO ONE uses it outside certain academia circles and media pundits.

It’s a nonissue, just like critical race theory. But I suppose the Biden administration has been a slow news cycle for a few months so people here need to be obsess over something geez

Do you mean regularly uses the term in casual conversation?  Or ever uses in speech or writing at all?  Because I don’t ever really use the term in speaking, but I would use it when writing for particular (mostly academic) audiences.

Some major businesses/companies/organizations have started to use the term "Latinx".

However, in casual lingo, "Latinx" is rarely used outside of the LGBT community and some "woke" progressives/leftists.

Probably slightly off topic but a point I've wanted to raise in this discussion for a while:

Like a lot of things there's not only a cosmopolitan/college attainment divide here but also probably a huge age divide.

Lots of older people (especially older Latinos/Latinas) will skew away from using or even knowing the word because they're less likely to be college educated and steeped in college-driven media.

The best predictor of use of Latinx is probably age. I'd bet the bulk of people who use it are under the age of 40. However because there are a lot of older people in the US, and because older and non-college people are typically ignored by most national media, people are surprised at how unpopular the term (and many other progressive ideas) in the population at large.

Usage seems like it will increase because younger people (especially teens/early 20s people) are so steeped in a global internet culture which skews cosmopolitan and progressive. If you're a 17 year old who has never set foot on a college campus, you may be inclined to say Latinx because you see it in a bunch of TikToks or Instagram posts even if you're not necessarily college bound. I think this means over time terms and ideas like this will have an easier time entering the mainstream and the college-attainment divide will soften.

Wtf cares

Wtf cares who says "Latinx"

Wtf cares what percentage of the population uses that term (no disresepct to the OP)

How many threads are we going to have on this pointless topic?

How about...
1. Will Manchin/Sinema gut the filibuster?
2. Will we get a public option?
3. Odds of success of the bipartisan bill and reconcillation?
4. Student debt and free college
5. How will the Supreme Court react
6. Will taxes be raised?

You know, things that affect REAL people in the REAL world

What is the percentage of the population that makes up far left white liberals? Probably a similar percentage.

Hearing NPR use it makes them look like a bunch of tryhards.
