I’ve seen jokes about how this forum supposedly is more “gay” than the general population, also referenced in BRTD’s recent thread about Taylor Swift.

Probably polls have been done on this in the past but let’s do another one to check the forum’s current composition:

Do you identify as LGBT+ (and for the purposes of this poll please don’t count being a “straight ally” or even asexual)?

And if indeed a significantly larger part of Atlas is LGBT than the general population, why do you think that is? Could it just be because it also skews younger, and we know younger people are more likely to identify as LGBT?

I think we have this poll on about a bi-monthly basis. I will be straight in a week, for a week in mourning, because gay pride month will be over. Polls are but a snap shot in time.

I do not identify as LGBT+. As Torie pointed out we have polls of this kind once every few months and the typical result seems to be that (slightly less than) half of this forum is LGBT+.

Atlas is the most anomalously gay place I've seen on the internet. I've seen places with even larger proportions of LGBT users, but they've all been purpose-made LGBT oriented spaces.
I've got no problem with it, I just find it odd given the proportion of LGBT people in the population. It's like if Atlas was 51% Pacific Islander or something.

In my experience, politics centered places tend to be extremely heavily LGBT. The reason is debatable, maybe LGBT people are more likely to be in politics, maybe they are more likely to be online, but whatever the case, in my anecdotal experience it's always been true

It's been my experience that LGBT+ people are much more likely to become involved in politics because politicians seem to want to be so involved in our lives.

Openly asexual, which counts despite what OP wants to believe--half my life was spent people harassing me and telling me I'm broken and something's wrong with me (at best) and threatening to "make me straight" before I knew there was a term for it or that I wasn't the only one.

Online me is trans but "IRL" me is still deep in the closet as society is still too hostile for my comfort.
