I don't see why there shouldn't. Not all Muslims vote for Dems or are Dem politicians. If I have to made a prediction, I'd say there's going to be one in 2025.

Reihan Salam runs for House in 2024 and carpetbags to a more R-friendly district in NY? #southasianrepresentation #ABCDesis4GOP #brownelephant

Those last two hashtags made me laugh.

It's a reference to the South Asian American posters here. I knew quite a few guys like you and OSR growing up but Xahar, pikachu, and lfromnj are probably more politically representative of 18-35 desi dudes on the whole. (Although mollybecky fits the latte liberal model minority political archetype that I associate with Indian Americans pretty well).

Ifromnj is Indian-American?
My opinion of him just skyrocketed.

To your whole post though, I get what you're saying but the hashtags themsleves are pretty funny (especially #brownelephant).

Interesting now that I think about it - lfromj has a very similar posting style to OSR, a fellow Indian-American conservative.

Also I always thought his name was I from NJ but I just realized it's L from NJ.

I have Dr. Oz, who is (iirc) a very liberal Shi’a Muslim narrowly defeating John Fetterman or Conor Lamb. It is also possible that maybe one of Reza Pahlavi’s daughters opt to run for Congress in 2024, so we may have several Muslim Republicans in Congress by 2025.

It wouldn't be much different than some Democrats treat Jews.

LOL.

Anyway, the prospect of a Republican Congressman being a member of the Islamic faith seems underrated in this thread. I'm not saying it will happen in the next five years, but I wouldn't assume the first Muslim Republican of Congress is Middle-Eastern. Some others have gotten at this by suggesting the first could be South-Asian, but Black Muslims can also be pretty conservative.

People start talking about the National of Islam, and folks' minds recall Malcolm X and think "liberal," but that's inaccurate. Maybe get some hybrid Joseph Cao/Brenda Lawrence situation where a Republican Hotep is elected to represent a majority-minority district in a special election, but only significantly reduced term in office. Expect the unexpected and whatnot.

Well Dr. Oz lost, but Abe Hamadeh has a decent chance of winning the primary and would be favored in the general in a Likely R district.

Perhaps, all things are possible. I can't imagine who it might be, though.
Maybe a militantly pro-Shah Iranian American Muslim gets elected as a Republican to Congress 2022? Maybe one of Reza Pahlavi’s daughters would match that description.
will 100% be a secular Muslim

Here in Canada, in the Manitoba Legislature, Obby Khan is the first Muslim Manitoba Conserative (or P.C) elected.

We got pretty close with Dr. Oz, so I imagine it will happen sometime soon. Hamadeh could pull it off for sure but Masters could easily win the primary.

I think Islam is ultimately the thing that will do Hamadeh in.
