A judge has released a rioter into house arrest, finding him too stupid to pose any major threat to society.

Doug Jensen, a QAnon conspiracy theorist who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 in support of former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, was ordered released on home incarceration by a federal judge on Tuesday. Jensen, who was among the first rioters to enter the seat of the legislative branch of the federal government and chased U.S. Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman up the stairs leading to the Senate, believed that he was at the White House, which is the center of the executive branch.

U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly said that Jensen’s conduct was serious, but that the threat Jensen posed to the community could be mitigated through strict conditions of release. Under federal law, pretrial detention is supposed to be a last resort and implemented only when there are no other conditions that would ensure public safety.

Judge Kelly cited Jensen’s lack of a grade-school level understanding of the U.S. government in his decision to release Jensen. Jensen, in Jan. 6 videos that were released to the media on Monday night, repeatedly stated that he believed he was at the White House.

“This is me, touching the f--king White House,” Jensen said, with his hand on an exterior wall of the U.S. Capitol.

“Storm the White House!” Jensen screamed in another video as he panned up to the Capitol dome. “That’s what we do!”

Judge Kelly said that Jensen couldn’t have preplanned or coordinated his actions on Jan. 6 because Jensen “had no basic understanding of where he even was.”

So many of these officers expressed shocked at being targeted racially or that the "thin blue line" flag was flying as the mob beat them. I am shocked that they don't understand the racism that exists in this country, how can you work in law enforcement and not understand that a large part of Trump's base is racist or that the "thin blue line" movement only cares about defending police when the brutality is aimed at black people.

I doubt that the Capitol Police and other police on duty at the Capitol expected anything like this. This violent effort to nullify an election is something that happens in other countries -- not America.

The vast majority of people who visit the Capitol do so in respect and awe of Congress and take little prodding to avoid any slight deviation in protocol. Until January 6, this may have looked like the easiest police work around. Nobody is going to do a drug deal in the Capitol. Nobody is going to try to use it as a refuge in flight from prosecution for garden-variety crimes. Violence is a rarity.

Most of us know the limits in interactions with police. Racial, sexual, and religious slurs are out of the question. Cops typically find some other technicality for prosecution. Attacking a cop is a good way to endure serious injury or even death, and even if one survives one faces a long prison term for doing so.

We have yet to see the harshest sentences, which will include those for assaults upon police. .   

Insurrections and coups are supposed to happen in unstable third world countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. They are not supposed to happen in stable liberal democracies with free and fair elections.

Trump and his cult are living in a fact free society and are spreading the big lie. You the right to your opinion, but not facts. Twitter and Facebook made the right decision to ban Trump, he is going to spread more disinformation about the election and another insurrection could happen after 2024 if he were unbanned.

Rwers love to say that all liberals do is call them racist but quite frankly I don’t know how one could objectively look at how Trump and certain rw posters here have reacted to what happened Ashlii Babbitt verses their reaction to the numerous cases involving unarmed black people killed by cops (for doing a hell of a lot less than Ashlii Babbitt did) and not come way with the impression that these people are in fact racist?

She was also shot by a black cop. A black man killing their white female MAGA martyr makes it much worse to the racist MAGAs.

Man, I am so glad the House GOP refused to put any of their goons on this committee.
They shot themselves in the foot (both feet), regarding their arrogant and stupid decision to not place any "loyal trump" members on this House investigative board.

If Republicans took back the House in 2020, the committee would have goons like Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz and Paul Gosar on it.

The report would blame the FBI and Antifa for launching a false flag operation.

There are closeups of Trump in some of the replies.  He's looking kind of ragged.

This is entirely reminiscent of some mob boss and his fellow gangsters trying to meet in some place that can't be readily bugged or infiltrated by law enforcement.

I was going to say that these pics reminded me of the scenes from The Sopranos when Tony would go into his basement with whoever he was criming with at the time and turn on the laundry machine.

This is trump's version of that. Middle of a golf course, too far away for sound to be picked up. These are criminal co-conspirators who just got subpoenas or expect to get them getting their stories straight.

Trump only uses secured phone lines when plotting his crimes. Trump rarely uses unsecured phone lines, email or text when breaking the law.

That's why it is hard for investigators, you need someone to cooperate with a wire or record the phone call.
