January 6 committee investigating Capitol tour given by GOP lawmaker on the eve of the insurrection

Quote
The House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection has formally requested information from Rep. Barry Loudermilk, a Republican from Georgia, about a US Capitol tour he gave to visitors the day before rioters stormed the building.

In a letter to Loudermilk, the committee said they are looking for more information about the purpose of the tour and its participants.

“Based on our review of evidence in the Select Committee’s possession, we believe you have information regarding a tour you led through parts of the Capitol complex on January 5, 2021,” Chairman Bennie Thompson, a Democrat from Mississippi, and Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney, a Republican from Wyoming, wrote in the letter.

“The foregoing information raises questions to which the Select Committee must seek answers. Public reporting and witness accounts indicate some individuals and groups engaged in efforts to gather information about the layout of the U.S. Capitol, as well as the House and Senate office buildings, in advance of January 6, 2021,” they added.

Committee has given Loudermilk a week to explain the tour(s) he gave. Schiff says the committee has evidence that contradicts his claim that there were no tours Jan 5.

Giuliani meets with January 6 committee for more than 9 hours

Quote
Rudy Giuliani, former President Donald Trump’s onetime personal attorney and a lead architect of his attempt to overturn the 2020 election results, on Friday met with the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection, two sources told CNN.

Giuliani’s original deposition with the committee had been postponed after the former New York City mayor asked to record the interview, with both audio and video. At the time, Giuliani’s attorney Robert Costello said the committee rejected that request.

This story is breaking and will be updated.

Grand jury indicts former Trump adviser Peter Navarro for contempt of Congress

Quote
A federal grand jury has indicted former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro for contempt of Congress after he refused to cooperate in the House January 6 committee’s investigation.

According to the Justice Department, Navarro will make an appearance in court Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET in Washington.

He faces two contempt counts: one for his failure to produce documents demanded by the committee and the second for failing to show up for subpoenaed testimony before House investigators.

The House had voted in April to refer Navarro to the Justice Department for not complying with the select committee’s February subpoena.

The other day Navarro said he would cooperate with the Justice Department subpoena since he's near the end of his life and doesn't want to spend a year of it in jail, but that he would not respond to Jan 6 committee subpoena.

Navarro said they violated the Constitution by arresting him today.

He also said everybody needs to buy his book on Amazon because it will be his legal defense fund.

He said a lot of other gibberish too lol

And at the end he says the jury acquitted Sussmann because Democrats can't help but lie, or something.

FBI arrests Michigan gubernatorial candidate on charges related to involvement in January 6 riot

Quote
A GOP Michigan gubernatorial candidate, Ryan Kelley, was arrested Thursday on misdemeanor charges related to his involvement in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, according to the Justice Department.

"Ryan Kelley, 40, of Allendale, Michigan, was arrested this morning on misdemeanor charges stemming from the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol breach. He was arrested in Allendale. Mr. Kelley is to make his initial appearance this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan," said Bill Miller, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in the District of Columbia.

The Detroit FBI field office confirmed Kelley's arrest and said his home was searched on Thursday morning.

What I remember being reported is they discussed it but they weren't sure who legally counted as cabinet as far as having a vote and weren't sure if it could stick if they went through with it so they scrapped the idea.

Cheney said we're going to see evidence that Trump said Pence deserved it (the hanging chants).

I think a rerun of Friends might get better ratings than the J6 committee gets in primetime.

Last night was watched by 20 million Americans, which beats the original airing of most episodes of Friends and easily beats the number of *weekly* viewers it had in syndication.

Barr said that Trump handed him a report that he claimed was definitive proof of fraud in the Dominion voting machines. Trump went on and on about the report and said it meant he would get a 2nd term. Barr said the report looked amateurish, the authors did not appear to have proper credentials, and its conclusions were not supported by facts in the report. He said he thought if Trump believed this, he must have become detached from reality.

So the only piece missing was to find someone who would hawk his crazed narrative and make court filings based on it as the VBM's did indeed tank him as they flooded in. And voila - Rudy Giuliani appears from stage left just perfect for the role. And the rest is history. All  that is left is for Trump to grift his supporters, for dough ostensibly to be used to fight the fraud, but actually used to self aggrandize himself.

Yes and we heard video testimony at the end that there was no "official election defense fund" that his campaign e-mailed supporters about hundreds of times.

There's definitely not going to be anything before the midterms. Longstanding DOJ policy is to not announce anything politically toxic in the runup to an election.

January 6 committee postpones Wednesday hearing

Quote
The House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, riot at the US Capitol has postponed its hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

The next hearing will be on Thursday.

Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, a member of the committee, told reporters that the reason for the rescheduling was due to "technical issues" and "not a big deal."

...

Lofgren said Wednesday's hearing topic, which was focused on the Department of Justice, will get moved to another day, and Thursday will still focus on then-President Donald Trump's efforts to pressure then-Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to certify the election results.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/14/politics/january-6-committee-wednesday-hearing/index.html

The amount of video to be organized was overwhelming the staff so they are giving them some more time.

So during the lame duck session?

The committee definitely carry into the next congress because a GOP majority will immediately shut any investigations down and open phony investigations into Biden with single purpose of taking him down in 2024.

The Committee being shut down isn't really relevant to the DOD investigation though, other than they'll no longer be getting all this free investigative work.

I didn't forget it. He made an executive decision to break the norm because he was worried what the ramifications would be if it got out after Clinton had won. Maybe he shouldn't have done it  anyway, but I don't think there's going to be an analogous scenario.

I don't think he was doing it for himself. I believe his explanation. (No that doesn't mean it was right.)

The hearing tomorrow was indefinitely postponed actually. I think that's for Thursday's hearing.
