How would Bernie Sanders have done in the 2008 election? Could he win the primaries? If he did, how would he have done in the general election? What about down ballot?

2008 seems perfect for Bernie. He could run against Wall Street and promise healthcare to all the recently unemplyed people. The student loan crisis had finally started

Or was he too far left for the country at the time? Would Bloomberg run third party?

There's no way the 2008 nominee is anyone not named Obama or Clinton as long as they run.

Obama already took the anti-Iraq lane as early as the 2004 DNC keynote speech, Clinton had been planning out the economic populist lane honestly since becoming First Lady, and Sanders might have a hard time getting unfavorably compared to Howard Dean, but take out one or the other and he would have a path. His map would look closer to a Clinton 2008 win, which IMO flips Indiana and North Carolina for Missouri and Montana.

I’d have to assume that Bernie stayed in the House for 2006. I just can’t imagine him running for President immediately after just being sworn for for the senate.

Anyways, his path to victory probably runs through surprise wins in caucus states, followed by Hillary and Edwards dropping out and endorsing him, and then defeating Obama one on one.

As the dem nominee in 2008, he wins the general, but against McCain it is significantly closer than it was in real life with Obama.

Wall Street wasn't wildly unpopular until September 2008 though.
