Here's the unofficial map of the results:

Laffey's best town was Johnston with 62.8%.  He Won the city of Cranston with 52.5% (his largest vote margin of 447 votes).  Chafee's best town was New Shoreham (Block Island) with 78.3%.  Second best was Jamestown with 64.7%.  He received 62.3% in Warwick, his largest vote margin of 2,134 votes.

Thanks for the map Dave!

Its strange that the Washington County (formerly the most Republican in the state) went for Chaffee, but Providence County (still the most Democratic) was Laffey's best area.

My guess (and I'll admit I know very little about RI) is that Washington is a traditional Republican county and thus more likely to be loyal to the party establishment, and also may be more of a Rockefeller Republican type area due to its traditional GOP ties. Providence may be more polarized, have more Republicans who have moved into the state from other areas and thus may be more conservative due to it being a larger city and thus perhaps more likely to attract immigrants from out of state, and also there may have been more Democrats there voting for Laffey to enhance their party's chances of winning the Senate race (since this was an open primary).

This is really interesting. Laffey was basically done in by an inability to turn out his supposed base in his hometown. 52% in Cranston - the city he is mayor of, has won elections in by huge margins in and has very few traditional Republican voters - is pathetic.

I wonder if liberal Independants were voting for Laffey so that Whitehouse could have a cake walk into the Senate.
