How effective was the nickname "Sleepy Joe Biden"?

Effective enough to result in a better nickname for him being "Teflon Joe," so not at all. 2016 just saw more of an underlying springboard - the "vast right-wing conspiracy" that'd effectively vilified Hillary for nearly 25 years beforehand - from which Hillary could be effectively attacked. The same could've never carried over to 2020 because the American people had already come to know Joe: he was everybody's goofy-but-lovable Uncle Joe, against whom obviously false insinuations just aren't, weren't, & were never gonna be believable. And in addition to actually helping Biden out by lowering expectations, Trump's trying & failing to use such a familiar strategy just made him look tired, desperate, & weak.

It was an awful nickname because it just lowered standards and Biden’s average debate performance made him seem like he did amazing.

People believed Hillary was crooked. People didn’t believe Joe was sleepy.

As well as being more effective, crooked Hillary came after years of hearing about her controversies, and matched her unpopularity. Sleepy Joe preceded that and just sounded like a primary school nickname.

It might have been more effective if 2020 had been a normal year in terms of campaigning (without any special health precautions to be concerned about). Biden is the kind of person whose favorability ratings increase if his public exposure is decreased, but increased public exposure also increased the likelihood of him making the gaffes he's been prone to making.

Of all the things that may have harmed Biden that we underestimated, this was not one of them. if anything the nickname reflects worse on Trump. He lost to Sleepy Joe! Hahaha!

I think it was effective in the sense that it made people think Joe Biden was sleepy (I think it's fair to say he is sometimes sleepy). But compared to being crooked, it's not much of a disqualifying character flaw.

1. I would also add that once you are labled as dishonest, there is nothing you can do.  You are considered dishonest for life. Being "sleepy" or "tired" or "weak" can be changed if you have a lively debate performance. Which Biden did.

2. Also, most voters like to see themeselves and their families as honest. Hence the dishonesty insult being so damaging. But almost everyone has a grandparent who is weaker and more tired than their younger days. It'll happen to everyone, its hard to hold that against Biden.
