Could New York public official, known as the "master builder" Robert Moses ever have been elected president? He de facto controlled New York politics from the 1920s until the 1960s when Nelson Rockefeller finally broke his power.

I think he would have been a viable candidate in 1948 or 1952 as a Republican (he actually was a Republican). He certainly wasn't that charismatic, but surely someone who knew how to gain power and successfully influence politics for a long time. And his visonary mind may have inspired at least some people.

It probably would have required Moses to have actually been elected to office in New York, and I'm not sure he wanted to do that.

That said, he probably could have been elected Governor or Senator from New York, or possibly even Mayor of New York City pretty much whenever he wanted, and from there he might have been a credible Presidential candidate.

Yes, he could have bulldozed all his opponent's houses and built a brand-new park.

This generally isn't how urban development works. People are compensated for their houses being demolished generally and demolishing houses is not a first priority when doing urban development.

Anyways, it's unclear, but maybe he could have, and I think his presidency would have been interesting, a president focused on urban development would be a nice development.

Obviously. It's a joke on his lack of care for the people being hurt by his projects.
