Which district is he even supposed to run in? NY Dems will probably draw out all but 1-2 downstate Rs and in FL, you can make a competitive Palm Beach/Broward shore seat, but it's complicated and probably messes with configurations in Miami-Dade.

The speaker doesn't need to be a member of the house.

Probably carpetbag to a rural Florida seat

The only vacant one would probably be Gaetz's

Would probably be that one , but knowing Trump even if that seat isn’t open he’d try to primary a Republican congressman and would almost certainly win as well .

Florida is getting a new seat in redistricting I believe.

Also, he can run for speaker without being a member of the house.

Trump just says so much dumb s**t that sometimes it's impossible to tell what's serious and what's not.

This is basically an admission by Republicans that he couldn't win the White House, just some crappy Florida safe seat.

lol he'd hate being Speaker even more than he hated being President. It's none of the pomp but all of the circumstance.

Is this saga a comedy now? He's probably carpetbagging, since he's not defeating Frankel, even with redistricting. He could change his registration to NJ, where he sometimes resides, but there's not any plausible options unless he forced Smith into retirement. He also could just campaign for the Speakership without running for a seat, but we'll have to see about that. Other than that, maybe run for Florida's new seat or an open seat. But if he did run for the Speakership, he wouldn't be contested for the most part, honestly.

He doesn't have to participate, he could boycott it to make it look like Biden's administration is even more illegitimate. Either that or give him the finger when the speech is finished.. LOL

Which GOP Congressman would even dare to stand against Trump himself in a primary?

If he runs, it would obviously be in a ruby red district so he can say HE WON HIS ELECTION BY A LOT and then he'd face little to no Republican opposition in the Speaker vote.

Threatening to become the speaker if Republicans win back the House is exactly the kind of attention hogging antics that would make the usual out-party favorable midterm environment into another referendum on Trump, which has gone poorly for the Republicans every time other than 2016. Great way to boost midterm turnout for Democrats and continue alienating the college educated moderates that bolted from the party since Trump became the face of it.

Yeah seriously, I almost hope he does it just because it will bolster turnout to stop him again and send the suburbs flying back left like in 2018.

This all assumes we lose OH, IA, NC and FL as wave issurance Senate Seats in 500 not 180 days which has a low probability due to strengthening of the Economy.

Dems can win 1 or 2 of those and secure the House the Election for House or Senate isn't over by a long shot, 500 days is an eternity

We won 33H seats in 2018, not 2017, it's still 2021

He doesn't even need to run for the House to be Speaker. But I wouldn't expect Trump to know how our government actually works...even after being part of it for four years. Anyway, he'd be stupid to do so because him running in either Manhattan or Palm beach would involve being in safe D districts where voters would not be very receptive to him.

When Republicans take the House in 2022 though, expect at least a few in the House to advocate for this instead of McCarthy. Hell, the only reason McQuisling wouldn't outright support this himself is because he wants to be Speaker.

Trump would hate the job though, and be as incompetent, if not more so, at it than being President. Especially since the Speaker always ends up being unpopular.

Also he better not run in New Jersey! I don't even want to consider him being part of my state's delegation...not that Somerset County would support him.

The only silver lining to this is that McCarthy still wouldn’t get to be Speaker even if the House flipped Tongue

I think Donald Trump would easily win whichever district is primarily based in Ocean County.

This is a terrible idea for him, he'd hate the job and be terrible at it, and he's better off if he runs in 2024 running as pure opposition to how things are going. The Speaker of the House is always unpopular and would get some share of the blame for where the country isn't doing well. Republicans should hate the idea too, since it would be a great way to juice Democratic turnout for the midterms. At least it would be funny that McCarthy gets cast aside after debasing himself for Trump.

He clearly doesn't want to do any of the work the Speaker has to do, he just wants to be in line in case his "second amendment people" do their thing.

Hmmm... this would mean if there is an election certification dispute in Jan 2025, he becomes acting president on the 20th if it remains unresolved, regardless of who the GOP candidate was.
