Normally I wouldn't prefer tabling but this Senate needs some kind of jolt at this point to get the juices flowing leading into the transition to the new Senate. Perhaps a spirited discussion on abortion will help with that.

Simplifying this bill into an abortion debate is inappropriate. Many pregnancies that are intended to be carried out regrettably require medical terminations that are very disheartening for the involved family.

This bill isn't just limited to emergency medical terminations though.

By voting to table, one could say you are, ahem, "throwing the baby out with the bath water".

I haven't voted to table yet. Tongue

Yet? Don't terminate protections for prospective mothers without considering what is best for all!

Come on convince me like you mean it! Tongue

Hey, if you think grieving would-be mothers should have to pay a hefty sum for miscarrying, I would love to convince you otherwise but it seems self-evident.

I am 85% sure that someone who miscarries would fall under "emergency care", which is explicitly listed as covered in Atlas care going back to the original 2017 text.

I am 85% sure that basing public policy on "85%" situations is the wrong choice. Every Atlasian deserves to be treated with dignity.

All policy in game is based on some level of uncertainty based on the obvious reality that we lack the industry expertise, lawyers, and well staff to do what real life policy makers do and even they get it wrong also with all of that expertise and expense. I consider myself knowledgeable about health care policy, but I do not pretend to be an expert on each medical field, classification of illness, nor do I pretend to be a doctor or medical professional.

It is also worth noting that attempts to push towards a RL style format of legislating has often yielded a negative reaction since it can be rather less than obvious what is being done. A good example of this would be Mr R's style and format of structuring legislation as alterations to the legal code. For the sake of the game, it is our accepted style to say what is happening or what is being changed and then operate on the basis that it does in fact do so because we said it did, such as with "emergency care".

Abstain

With Blair's vote against, passing the motion is impossible. Therefore the motion to table has been rejected.

Aye (1): Spark498
Nay (3): Blair, Pericles and Sev
Abstain (2): Falterin and NC Yankee

Didn't Vote (0):
