"This Wretched Hive Of Scum And Villainy" is somehow the most ornate and poetic thread title I have ever seen on this forum despite being a vicious insult. Very Tory indeed!

It was indeed a poor Tory result - and partly caused by local party dissatisfaction with the candidate - but the subsequent trajectory of the seat suggests that wasn't the only factor.

I think they could have taken Tynemouth in 2010 (right local-enough candidate (not Michael McIntyre!) and being realistic about their chances in Sunderland Central), but it absolutely would have been regained by Labour in either 2015 or 2017 and held last time.

From Cullercoats to Whitley Bay, I'd like to think that the mystical influence of Mark Knopfler singlehandedly saved Tynemouth for Labour.

Nobody in the Northern Isles speaks Gaelic. That said, that's no reason to tell Payne and Mason that.

Paul Mason should be forced to do retail politics in the Western Isles, where Gaelic is actually spoken, but for a different reason - it would be really funny to see his head explode when surrounded by Wee Frees and other people who lock playground amenities on Sundays, not to mention the evil Papists of Barra and South Uist.

Brandreth has an international audience not due to his TV shows but due to his books. There are a bunch in my house (my mother loves Oscar Wilde and stories about Oscar Wilde).

Possibly the MP whose surname is the most similar to his constituency. On at least one occasion I've heard another MP mistakenly refer to him as the 'Member for Halfon' in the House of Commons.

Still not as good as Hooley for Heeley.

What about Christian Wakeford MP and Wakefield CC both switching from Conservative to Labour in 2022? Both in the [may God forgive me for uttering this word] "Red Wall" as well.

I see Liz Truss has devoted herself to the ovine business, making use of her experience with pork markets.
