I'm honestly increasingly beginning to believe this is a good thing. It would drive D turnout up and R turnout down for the midterms.

And the women unable to get abortions in the meantime are just collateral damage?

But people keep on telling me that abortion bans have no affect on the rate of abortion!

Fetal personality is a ludicrous position to take. Can you talk to a fetus? Can it eat? Can it work and pay taxes? Does it observe a culture? Can it vote? Can it drive a car?

Most of those things don't apply to newborns, half of them apply to 14 year olds.

No they don't?

As you know, there is a huge difference between "a ban won't reduce them to 0" and "a ban won't reduce them at all from their current rate."

A lot of "personally pro-life, politically pro-choice" people say exactly that in order to justify voting for Democrats.

If you want to be precise, rich women who want to get an abortion will get an abortion by travelling to California/Canada for the weekend (your pick) and paying out of pocket; while poor women will just have to suck it up and raise the child (or put him up for adoption, or do a dangerous illegal abortion)
Wrong. If a woman leaves Georgia to get an abortion in Virginia (the closest state with legal abortion), the woman can be charged with a crime.

A wild "banning abortion will do nothing to stop abortions" appears!

Anyways, both morally and politically, I hope this passes. Abortion is a form of murder and should only be protected federally for very specific situations.

Murder is the unlawful killing of another human being. If abortion is legal, it is explicitly not murder.

The state has no moral power to legalize abortion, just as it has no moral power to legalize any sort of human rights violations.

Abortion is something he feels very strongly about defending for some reason, probably to maintain his "my side is infinitely morally superior to yours" schtick.  He has me on ignore because I called him out a few years ago when he was telling me that I can't oppose abortion unless I spend every waking moment helping the poor.  I don't think he's very confident in his position.

I think you would see mass mobilisation of pro-choice Americans and a mass drain of demographic and economic drain from states where there would be default anti-choice legislation.

So, Ohio, West Virginia, Missouri, Iowa are doomed economically?

Certainly not! Those states are doing fantastic now. Every day one of my friends at the bagel shop says, boy, I can't wait til my number comes up and I can move to Huntington, WV or Branson, MO!

Glad to see "socialists" express contempt for economically deprived areas.

It's entirely their fault we're in the current predicament. Yeah, the WWC of WV, MO, etc., valued their racial/religious animus above their economic wellbeing. So please, don't expect me to shed a tear for them. They're getting exactly what they voted for, and exactly what they deserve.
