The incongruence matches what we’ve seen in some other generic re-elect vs approval rating polls (Grassley, Whitmer, etc).

Murphy has to focus on a laser on property taxes.......

No New Jersey Democratic governor has won reelection since Brendan Byrne in 1977---Florio lost in 1993, McGreevey would have lost in 2005 if he had stayed on; Doug Forrester for the Republicans was a bad candidate in 2005, Corzine's $$$$$ mattered a lot, but Corzine lost to Christie in 2009

Murphy will just be fine in November. These "reelect" numbers are hardly of value.

Ciatarelli's only chance is really tepid Democratic turnout, which looks unlikely when Murphy has high approvals in general.
