I kid you not. The hacks are getting tired of coming up with plausible pretexts:

Does this mean they are back to the old flag?

No, that was put on the ballot by the legislature. It could mean that we no longer have voter ID (LOL of course it doesn't), but it does mean that the Medicaid Expansion initiative won't make it to the ballot, nor early voting reforms.

It was a 6-3 vote with two consistently liberal justices joining the majority opinion and two conservative justices dissenting. Interesting.

This is a perfect representation of the double-edged sword that is pure textualism & the belief that the law can just be applied as if it were a computer program. This decision utterly lacks common sense, & the obvious solution would've been to just rule that the obvious intent behind the provision at hand was to require an equal proportion of signatures from each congressional district, the explicit requirement for 5 congressional districts - the existence of which isn't even for MS to decide - notwithstanding.

Enough racists are in Mississippi government to keep the state regressive. That's really what the problem is.

Oh honey child. I know your gig is to claim that accusations of racism are more serious than actual racism in 2021, but bless your heart when you say things like this.

The South has seen a massive shift in racial attitudes in the last 50 years.  Mississippi still has a lot of racists, but I don't think any state has a racist majority.

You know, when your standards are comparing to an Era immediately after where literal lynchings and busted heads to avoid voter registration plus requiring separate bathrooms, water fountains, lunch counters, Etc were the inviolable mores at the region, stating that things have changed markedly since then is still a damned low bar.

Every state has a racist majority.

Mississippi is a fine place. I'm not white, and I was treated with respect by every white and black person I met there.

For every $1 Mississippi pays to the federal government, they get $2.88 back.  The whole state is a welfare queen.

Wow.  Interesting that a cross-ideological coalition of judges would embrace something so counterintuitive and arcane.

https://www.mississippifreepress.org/12472/they-dont-trust-the-people-lawmakers-want-to-weaken-voter-power-mcdaniel-warns/

They seem interested in bringing it back in some form albeit with changes.  The infamous Chris McDaniel attacks this.

A White Demosaur actually opposes bringing it back.
