I am saying it right now: If either Ossoff or Warnock wins, I'll leave the forum for 1 solid year.

This makes Trump look far better than he actually is, but it is rather revealing that the liberal mind's worst composite nightmare of a politician is a socialist who casts out neocon war criminals.

I give up.  I've read that sentence three times and I still can't parse the last part.

It's a sad state of affairs that the GOP is so far-gone as to make Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney martyrs over not blatantly lying and treating the American public as idiots.

They may be martyrs, but they're certainly not heroes. Any Republican who wants their party to go in a different direction yet is still registered to it are doing nothing more than continuing to enable it. Get with the program or get out, it's evident that's the only choice any Republican has anymore and any of them who are concerned and don't get out are not actually making anything better.

I take issue with this whole development being construed as a "civil war" in the GOP though. This is more like if the American Revolution only consisted of the members of the Boston Tea Party fighting against the British Empire. It's really not a fair fight that resembles two relatively evenly matched sides duking it out. It's like Scrappy Doo charging at Cthulu: "DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH-DUH! Anti-cult power!" *squish*.

A great deal of this "the GOP is in disarray!!1!" narrative is manufactured by the mainstream media (and that includes Fox).  95% of GOP voters wouldn't care about Liz Cheney if she was a more reliable team player for her party which, to his credit, Mitt Romney has improved in this area as of late.

Being a "team player" shouldn't mean trying to obstruct everything.

What has she done other than refused to bow to the GOP's new fake-gold idol?

Cheney has stated zero objections to voter suppression. She only calls the Trump theft mythology surrounding it a threat to democracy, and she does that because of her longstanding tensions with Trump.

Anytime the GOP caucus takes a step further towards trumpism and QAnonism is a moment we should dread. Are the Democrats stronger when running against these loons? Perhaps. But the GOP will be back in charge at some point and if they are lead by the extremists then we are in for a world of pain.

So yes, I will dread Liz Cheney's persecution.

Sheila Jackson Lee said "I'm a proud progressive who thinks Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney and George W. Bush are true patriots". So much cringe. Funny enough, she tried to challenge the electoral vote in both 2000 and 2004.

This is very true. It is gonna be hard to keep the GQP out forever and the next president they get could very well be a complete lunatic that makes Trump look sort of normal. Try to imagine a Mike Lindell presidency for a second...the western world somehow survived the Trump presidency. It is not likely to survive a Mike Lindell presidency.

What would have happened if the chair of the Republican conference, J. C. Watts, in May 2001 said that Bush didn't really win Florida?

that's not a remotely app comparison and you know it. They were legit arguments on both sides then  their candidate won. The argument that Trump won is literally weekly world news level  fantasy BS.

This is disingenuous even for you.

Quote from: The Linked Letter from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to His GOP Colleagues
If we are to succeed in stopping the radical Democrat agenda from destroying our country, these internal conflicts need to be resolved so as to not detract from the efforts of our collective team. Having heard from so many of you in recent days, it's clear that we need to make a change. As such, you should anticipate a vote on recalling the Conference Chair this Wednesday.

I know that this isn't gonna happen, but since it'll be a secret vote, I'm gonna be laughing my ass off all night long on Wed. if Cheney somehow ends up pulling out a win here & gets to keep her position after all of this. Pure chaos = best chaos!

So Trumpism is definitely coming back in 2024 huh? Even if it’s to lose again.

Unless after the midterms Republicans have sufficient control of Congress that they declare their candidate the winner on the flimsiest of pretexts. Totally doable

Interesting but sad thread on what Trumpism does to once-reasonable people (as if we don't have plenty of examples of it already just on this forum)
