Assuming its like the 2008 crash cause thats the only way it would have real impact , cause otherwise a week isnt nearly enough time for it to impact the public. Even then Goldwater still loses by a healthy margin just not a landslide

I doubt a recession would change much. The US still had faith in the Keynesian New Dealers to handle financial crises, and Johnson's Great Society programs would play strongly to that. You also still have Kennedy's martyrdom and Goldwater's unorthodoxy to contend with. It would be interesting to see how much more chaos you could get out of 1968, though. The pressures of Vietnam, the Great Society, and the Space Race were hard enough on a strong economy.
