As we all know, former Alabama governor Robert Bentley had a sex scandal emerge in 2016, while Obama was still president. By the time he resigned in 2017 to resolve this matter, Trump had become president. Had he not resigned, he would likely have been impeached & removed from office, and even criminally prosecuted as well.
As we also know, under the Trump administration, the Republican party often circled the wagons to defend their own politicians who had faced scandals like this. This made me wonder: if Bentley's scandal had first emerged on or after January 20, 2017 (when Trump took office), would Trump and other Republicans have circled the wagons to defend Bentley? Would that have ensured that Bentley served out his full term (ending in 2019)?
