Modi is definitely in the upper echelon of terrible leaders of major countries but he isn't quite as dangerous to the rest of the world as Xi or Bolsonaro.

No, especially given he is in danger of becoming as politically crippled by the coronavirus as Donald Trump was.  Up until this most recent wave, I thought he was well on his way to winning a third term in 2024 with Covid beginning to recede and economic growth reviving.  Granted this is 2021, and we still have some years to go before the next general election, but this potentially could finish him, leaving him a dead man walking by then.

Modi doesn't even care about his people to that extent. In fact, he's quite prepared to kill his own citizens if it means glorifying himself or an artificial Hindu nationalist political construct that isn't even 100 years old.

I voted "Yes", not because I actually believe this, but due to the large numbers of people scoffing at this notion. For those who value liberal democracy, secularism, and tolerance, Modi is one of the most dangerous leaders in power today.

India was once a secular nation and its leaders portrayed themselves as representing Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus and Christians, even if their behavior often departed from their actions. In many ways, Modi's BJP is destroying this India, as he censors his opponents to further consolidate power, singles out religious minorities, openly promotes Hindutva and pursues possible ethnic cleansing in Kashmir. Unfortunately, this could all be rather durable and, if this occurs, there is a real risk of Modi ethnically cleansing parts of India that lack the troubled history of Kashmir or relegating Muslims to second-class citizen status.

Aspects of this threat are not new to India, one only has to read about the Emergency to realize this, but others are very novel and they point to some very dark outcomes.
