Let's say that tomorrow Joe Lieberman suffers a massive heart attack.  While doctors expect him to make full recovery, he will be in the hosiptal for several weeks.  Due to this, Lieberman withdraws from the race but gives a shocking announcement:

"I am very concerned with the state of the Democratic Party.  It has drifted so far leftward that I can't fault moderate Democrats from voting for Republicans.  Therefore to send a message to our party, I urge all Connecticut voters to vote for the Republican candidate in this race."

Also, who would win if Schelsinger were replaced by a stronger candidate such as Rep. Rob Simmons or Nancy Johnson (with Lieberman's endorsement)?

My predictions:
Lamont 56, Schlesinger 44 (not sure how I'd vote)
Lamont 51, Simmons/Johnson 49 (I'd vote GOP)

Something like that. Most democrats and independents support Lieberman would never vote for Schlieseger.

Wait, I missed the UTTERLY ridiculous premise of a DEMOCRAT ENDORSING SCHLESINGER (besides myself, but that is far very different reasons).  Lamont is no leftist.  He disagrees with Liberman on the biggest issue in a decade, Iraq.  He was thrown our for being old, dull, and not doing enough to be a Democrat.  It has NOTHING to do with political ideology, however much Fox News likes to spin it like that.  Lieberman would most certainly endorse Lamont, or possibly not endorse.  Endorsing Schlesinger WOULD NOT happen.  But if he did.... it would be closer than what I had.

Even if Lieberman would endorse Schelsinger the race wouldn't be anything closer than you originally suggested.  Schlesinger may get a sympathy vote from the endorsement, but he would be absolutley demolished.  He is a horrific candidate with  major flaws.

Alan Gold would at least triple what he is getting now! Meaning he would get about 12%...nah he would do better than that but not by much. He is a complete joke of a candidate.

We know a lot of people are voting for Alan for the comedic aspect/feeling bad for him.

Anyone see that cool cat on Hardball? Alan Gold is a warrior.
