To increase the minimum wage
Be it enacted in both houses of Congress

Section 1; Title
1. This legislation may be cited as the "Rewarding Hard Work Act"
Section 2; Minimum Wage Increase
1. 29 U.S.C § 206(a)(1) is amended to read as follows:

(1) except as otherwise provided in this section, not less than $11.00  $15.00 an hour;

Section 3; Implementation
1. The increase in the federal minimum wage shall take effect over a period of two years-
a) Starting from January 1, 2022, the federal minimum wage shall increase by $2 at the start of each year until it reaches $15.

Anyway, I support this. It is a good idea to increase the minimum wage in increments and if it hadn't been proposed in the Senate I would have suggested it myself. Props.

How many jobs would this bill cost?

$15 is a solid step forward for bettering people’ lives. $11 is too low in this day and age and in this economy. Working at this wage isn’t anywhere close to a living wage and having to pay bills and rent leaves you with barely any money left over.

Minimum wage increases haven't actually been proven to cost jobs. Asides from the superficial neoliberal theory, this makes sense because ultimately these people will spend their increased wages in the economy and likely spend at a higher rate than the business owners would have. What is actually clear is that minimum wage increases significantly boost incomes for millions of people. We can't deny them that increase based on simplistic and unproven claims.

If thats the case then amendment to put the minimum wage at 50 dollars per hour.

Virtually every argument taken to the absolute extreme would backfire. It's perfectly reasonable to do a gradual $4 increase and expect that to have a net benefit to society, that is applying the argument in a pragmatic way.

My only issue is that it doesn't get to 15 fast enough, but that said, I'm supporting the bill I worked on and advocated for behind the scenes.

$51 dollars would bankrupt small businesses nationally, the only places that would survive this wage would be Atherton and Hillsborough and other such places, I highly urge the House to reject the amendment, if it is brought up for a vote. Any place that isn't full of ultra wealthy people will not be able to survive this.
