This is a good sign that the 06 trend is settling in to be definetly Dem, if there was any doubt left at all. If the Dems play the center-left game, they should be looking good come election day.

The Democrats should be able to win on the security issue as long as they counter quickly and effectively against the many "cut and run" and "the terrorists want the Democrats to win" smears that will come from Republicans and their media friends.

They're starting to lose NASCAR dads as well, according to this article.

I don't think groups like "security moms" really exist as a voting bloc.  What you have is the media trying to put a face on swing voters.  So you look at the demos on the polls, and see that women are slightly more likely than men to be swing voters, and married women more likely than single women to be swing voters, and white married women slightly more likely than minority married women to be swing voters, and you eventually end up with this myth about elections turning solely on the voting patterns of soccer moms.

In reality, swing voters are a much more diverse group than that, and all of their votes count equally.  That being said, when your overall numbers are as bad as the GOP's right now, then it means that all of the various demos of swing voters are turning against you, not just "soccer moms" or "Nascar dads" or whatever.  But all groups of independents.

The way all of these news stories are written, however, they always make it sound like everyone's voting behavior is solely determined by the demographic group they fit in.  It's a lot more complicated than that.

General polls like this don't really matter too much in mid-term elections. The Democrats need to win individual races. The election isn't one vote, "Who do you prefer, Democrats or Republicans?"
