Also, any bets on the first idiot pundit to suggest that Hogan would make this race anything other than Safe D?

Raskin>Alsobrooks>Sarbanes>Trone, imo.

I wonder if Raskin will run with his cancer though. My money rn is on Alsobrooks.

His cancer is in remission, but I think that not only he doesn’t run for Senate, he also goes ahead and retires from the House.

I’ve seen dozens of that guy’s tweets, the best way to summarize him is the bottomless pit Wojak meme

One of the best, but 81 seems a reasonable time to retire. Raskin would be my top choice were it not for that criminally stupid Ukraine letter. Sarbanes is probably the safest choice, but the odds are good that a quiet, competent Dem will be elected here.

Gut says Alsobrooks vs. Trone and she wins 55-60%

I'm not surprised. He's pretty old, isn't he?

He won his first election in 1966, four years before the current President won his!

Oh wow:

I support Trone but I’d be fine with any of Trone/Alsobrooks/Raskin, plenty of good options.

It would be Likely D in the unlikely scenario of Hogan vs Trone in my opinion.

No, it would be Safe D. Trump is going to lose the state by probably more than he did in 2024. Democrats did just as well as Biden last year, if not better, in every part of the state. The only reason they didn’t beat Biden’s margin percentage wise was because of comparatively low black turnout in PG and Baltimore City.

I really hope Carper retires too,  the Democratic Senate Caucus is just WAY too old.

Cardin is a good Senator. I wish him well in his post-elected office career.

Carper isn't retiring the MD retirement has a lot to do with DC Statehood the Ds have a real chance at winning AZ, OH, TX and 5 seats in the H to get the Filibuster proof Trifecta

Cardin beat Mfime in 2006 and we need more blk Senators that's why Colin ALLRED decides to run he will win along with Kunce Tester and Brown and GALLEGO

Good, some fresh news faces are sheldom a bad idea. Especially when we're having a 81-year prez at the top of the ticket, younger blood downballot makes even more sense.

Montgomery County Councilman Will Jawando is the first notable Democrat to enter the race.

Quote
Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando is running for U.S. Senate.

Jawando made the announcement to WUSA9 on Tuesday after Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Maryland) announced he would not seek reelection at the end of his third term./quote]

Larry Hogan is out.

Quote
Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) ruled out a 2024 Senate bid Tuesday, depriving Republicans of a candidate with a proven record of winning statewide elections in the Old Line State.

Hogan was at the top of the GOP’s list of preferred candidates after Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) announced on Monday that he would not be seeking reelection next year. But Hogan says it’s not happening.

I'm not surprised Cardin would retire. Fifty-eight continuous years in office is quite enough (not that I'm advocating for term limits).

Eh, he'd be fine but it'd be nice not to have another older white guy in the seat.
