It's clear that the State of Georgia is using her to send a message to Black people that they will always be second-class citizens in the eyes of the law.

Disgusting.

And all because she knocked on a door.  I see southern Republicans are following the same Jim Crow playbook -make an example of the most uppity and visible, so that the rest become cowed and subservient, and stay obediently on the plantation.

It is not going to work!  Times have changed.  This attempt at intimidation is only going to anger black voters and Democrats, and redouble their efforts at ensuring Republicans are thrown out of the governor's mansion in 2022.

Violation of the "perpetual and impassable barrier intended to be erected between the white race and the one which they had reduced to slavery"?

Park Cannon was trying to enter the room where this bill signing ceremony was taking place:

Here, in front of a painting of a slave plantation, we see six white men watching a white man sign a bill into law that adds extra restrictions that will target poorer people and minorities.

They’re sending a clear message to their fellow whites, terrified that their state has finally turned blue, "don’t worry boys, we got this.  And if any of those n...aggers like the bitch outside want to complain, we’ll lock 'em up for eight years."

I feel pretty certain that she won't face charges at all, much less go to jail for 8 years. There are some non-lunatics still left in the Georgia GOP who can see how awful of a look that would be and hasten the party's descent into VAGOP level irrelevancy.

If she goes to prison for even a day, then all hell is gonna (justifiably) break loose.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/02/politics/park-cannon-georgia-arrest-cnntv/index.html

Quote
The arrest affidavit for the felony obstruction charge says Cannon "did knowingly and willfully hinder Officer E. Dorval and Officer G. Sanchez of the Capitol PD, a law enforcement officer in the lawful discharge or the officer's official duties by Use of Threats of Violence, violence to the person of said officer by stomping on LT Langford foot three times during the apprehension and as she was being escorted out of the property. The accused continued on kicking LT Langford with her heels."

It's amazing how the "small details" are being left out of a thread.

"She's innocent!" shouts the Atlas Left.  Why? Because SHE says so.  Substitute "Marjorie Taylor Greene" for "Park Cannon" and see how this thread spins.  Especially if the Governor were, say, Stacey Abrams.  In that scenario would "dissent" have been "tolerated" by the Talk Elections Left?

Now I find it disturbing that this whole matter resulted in an arrest.  I don't wish this woman to face formal charges, let alone go to jail/prison.  This is America, and the last thing we need is more political prisoners.  But this woman was arrested because she kicked a police officer giving her a lawful directive.  I don't want people to think it's OK to commit batteries on Law Enforcement Officers just because you're not getting your way over some Wokeness issue that's important to you.  Would Marjorie Taylor Greene have been justified in kicking a police officer or stomping his foot multiple times as Park Cannon is alleged to have done?  Those sort of behaviors ARE felonies, and in every state in the Union.

Park Cannon had no right to kick that police officer's leg or stomp his foot.  None at all.  It was not justified, it was not an act of protest, it was a crime, and it would be a crime for any person of any race.  I don't wish for her to be charged.  An ideal, and even healing outcome would be for the charges to be dropped and for Park Cannon to apologize for kicking/stomping a police officer.  That would be downright adult all around.  I doubt Park Cannon has that kind of decency and humility, but I certainly wish the charges dropped (and dropped soon), regardless of what the actions are.  She's not a victim, however; she's a full-bore volunteer.

Or does your hypocrisy prevent you from applying the standards you applied to Gaetz to her?

She is considered innocent until proven guilty.

Or does your hypocrisy prevent you from applying the standards you applied to Gaetz to her?

She is, indeed, innocent until proven guilty.  Once someone is arrested for an offense, there is probable cause to believe that (in this case) (A) the police officer was kicked and his foot stomped, (B) Park Cannon did it, and (C) this happened while the officer was lawfully carrying out his duties as an officer.

Once Gaetz is charged (IF he's charged; that may never happen.) the above will apply to him as well.  Gaetz hasn't even been charged.  Additionally, the nature of the accusations against Gaetz are much more serious and involve far more serious consequences, in and out of Court.

Let's be honest here, the two (2) situations aren't exactly comparable situations.  If Park Cannon's charges are dropped, she'll be a hero.  If she goes to trial, she'll be a major "Civil Rights" hero.  If she were actually convicted, she'd likely be immediately pardoned by whomever was Governor of Georgia, and she'd be the new Superstar.  (Indeed, she might be on GA's statewide ticket in 2022 at this rate.)  Matt Gaetz, short of proving beyond ANY doubt that the allegations against him are false AND politically driving, is ruined; he may be unelectble for his safe Congressional seat even now as we speak.

An arrest meets the standard of probable cause.  "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" is the standard of proof at trial.  She is entitled to the presumption of innocence until the State proves that standard.

She is ALLEGED to have done something that rises to a criminal act.  There is a specified victim and specified actions.  Gaetz is "under investigation", the results of which are final, and the investigation is one that need be proven only to the level of Probable Cause to bring a charge.  We're not there yet in his case.

The point of my responses, by the way, is that the thread is misleading.  She wasn't arrested for "Knocking on Kemp's Door".  She was arrested for kicking and stomping the foot of a police officer.

It's a misleading thread title.

That would have been a falsehood as well.  Kicking them and stomping a police officer's foot is what she's accused of, and it's telling that you wouldn't mention that.

She wasn't arrested for knocking on the door. She wasn't arrested because she allegedly stomped a cop's foot.

She was arrested because the State of Georgia wants to send a message to Black people that they will always be second-class citizens in the eyes of the law, that this is still a white man's country. They're making an example out of her.

Even if that's true, you don't get to kick a cop or stomp his foot when they tell you that you can't enter a restricted area.  If that were Marjorie Taylor Greene doing that to a bill that Governor Stacey Abrams were signing, you'd be fine with it.

Brian Kemp isn't one of my faves.   I understand why people are angry with how he handled Georgia's voter rolls as SoS.  And Kemp, himself, has put himself in the position to where his actions are critiqued as they are.  None of that justifies what Park Cannon has allegedly done.  None of that.

Park Cannon didn't get her way.  There are people who view this as an injustice.  There are other people who view the way Georgia voted in 2020 as a system that leaves open many opportunities for fraud and for fraudulent votes to be counted.  They are not wrong in that concern when you have a voting system that allows for sending absentee ballots out that were not requested to all voters and where procedures in vote counting (e. g. counting votes after observers have left) occurred, and are all casually explained away by those culpable.  All of that doesn't matter, either.  Park Cannon's actions, and Park Cannon's actions alone are the issue here.  I'm fine with this all going away.  I'm not fine with the important details of why she was arrested being misrepresented in the thread title.

It's telling that you won't acknowledge why she's actually being arrested.

He even described this assault on voting rights as "some Wokeness issue that's important to you".

At least now we know what type of justifications we'd be reading for the water cannons being deployed against civil rights protesters, had that happened in the internet age.

Remember, there is absolutely no acceptable way for black people to protest.  Not one.

The point of my responses, by the way, is that the thread is misleading.  She wasn't arrested for "Knocking on Kemp's Door".  She was arrested for kicking and stomping the foot of a police officer.

It's a misleading thread title.

Kneeling during the national anthem is like the textbook definition of “peaceful” but that still wasn’t good enough for Fuzzy.

The GA elections bill is not a "voting rights" bill.  It's not.  It's a law that seeks to balance convenience with minimizing fraud and the acceptance and counting of the ballots of ineligible voters.

No one wants to admit they're fine with ballot box stuffing if they're doing the stuffing.  Those folks never stop to think that their opponents can rig the game in the same manner.

As for the "NFL Kneelers":  I note their contempt for America, but their employer is fine with them.  They certainly aren't doing something for which they should be arrested, and if their employer is fine with that, I'm not going to clamor for them losing their job.  I will note that the Kneelers themselves were nowhere near as tolerant with those who chose to not Kneel.
