Watching Peruvian news at home. Castillo just got in the car in Chiclayo en route to Lima - prepping a victory rally perhaps?

As more votes come in, it keeps narrowing in Castillo's favor. And they keep showing the Ipsos fast count alongside the official count on TV (though, this could just be because they have an Ipsos guy on as their analyst)

A brief moment of levity in the campaign: el unicornio electoral

A Peruvian voter trying to avoid catching the virus decided to go to the polls last weekend in a unicorn costume. She has become a meme in the country and light-hearted morning shows are basing their programming around her.

Keiko Fujimori joined the group of leaders who didn't accept the defeat: Aécio Neves, Juan Guaidó, Jeanine Añez and Donald Trump
Guaidó?

Yeah, Guaido never ran in/lost any presidential election. He claims the 2018 election was fraudulent (which is fair) and therefore that the presidency has been vacant since then and that he should be Acting President (since president of legislature is in the line of succession).

I'm old enough to remember when "impeachment" meant something

Maybe Peru should have more of a parliamentary system of government. Doesn't seem like anything has been getting done in the country since the constant political crises started almost a decade ago

One interesting note is that José Williams called Boluarte “presidente” and not the more common “presidenta”.
This is becoming more common in Spanish speaking countries, Boluarte is not the first. I think people call CFK "Vicepresidente"

Not at all, she always insisted that people should call her Presidenta (or vicepresidenta) while in office. In fact, I can't even find a news article (or anything really) where she is refered to as "Vicepresidente". Maybe someone that hates her uses the term ironically or something lol
Oh ok I must have confused that with someone else then
