I'm wondering if this is still possible. Back in the day primaries seemed to be a lot more open. I know in 1946 Earl Warren entered the Republican, Democrat, and Progressive gubernatorial primaries in California and handidly won all three, leaving him unapposed in the general election. Can that be done in any Presidential primaries today? And if so, are there any candidates that would be able to poll decently well in both the D and R presidential primaries? I think a candidate like Bloomberg, Giuliani, Evan Bay, or Ben Nelson might be able to carry states in both.
