It's amazing to me that Republicans (and Manchin) are going in circles to try and go after the Infra plan when again it has easily majority support from the American people. Just listen to the f**king public and pass it

From the looks of it, the bipartisan bill is quite solid and a serious compromise. Take that, along with the much bigger reconciliation bill (which will include all the good stuff like tax increases on higher incomes, Paid leave, the rest of the Families plan, etc) and Biden’s got a great win which will play well with the public, and really impact people’s lives. Choosing infrastructure as his main legislative push was an excellent decision on Biden’s part.

people really dont give him enough credit for how savvy he is

This is what a successful presidency looks like, one that follows through on its promises concretely, rather than bloviating on it year after year.

Biden has objectively accomplished a lot in the first 7 months. Hope the American people actually pay attention.

This is all getting exhausting. If Ds actually want to have a chance at winning next year, they need to get their sh**t together and just pass this sh**t.

I can't tell if Dems are just saying sh**t to say it, or they're really believing this stuff, b/c the topline # doesn't make a difference at all when it's over 10 years.

I read the Playbook this morning and wow that's a one-sided slanted take of what was in there.

There's a lot of similarity between this and Republican attempts in the House to do a reform/outright cancellation of ACA. They started with a goal but in the end could not get all of their caucus to agree on anything. The difference here is the potential for Republican support vs. there was no Democratic support for the ACA reform efforts in 2017.

My gut feel here is the moderates win. Reasons why:

1.) The Progressives have no Republican votes in their favor to carry toward a majority while the moderates will have some.
2.) Like the Playbook stated yesterday, the Progressive Caucus is 95 members but how many are actually willing to vote against when rubber meets the road?
Politico has essentially been acting as the press office for No Labels, I’d take any report with a grain of salt.

Politico has jumped the shark at this point. They've always been sensationalistic but each passing year it just gets worse and worse. They're like the National Inquirer of politics, just with more scoops/accurate reporting. The hot takes and pundit takes from them are just laughable.

For context - the bill was delayed from today to Thursday. That piece of info is pretty big, so not sure why it wasn't included in the earlier post.

Like seriously. If Pelosi has agreed to this, it means she's just given up on the entire Biden agenda and thinks all that's left for this Congress to do is raise the debt ceiling, avoid the shutdown, and just wait for the inevitable GOP wave of 2022. It means the entire Biden presidency has basically been for naught.

Just pathetic.

Clearly you should just be speaker I guess since you think you know it all

What doesn't make sense to me for the 'moderates' being weary of the $3.5T package is that the package is POPULAR! And it actually includes a ton of great things for all types of districts. Hell, the $3.5T package is huge for places even like West Virginia.

I'm seriously confused at how moderates are somehow worried about this. People do not care about price tags anymore if the things in the bill are going to help them, and many of the things inside the $3.5T are going to help.

Both bills are popular. This isn't a scenario like we've seen many times in the past decade of these bills getting pushed through because they're unpopular. People actually LIKE them, so to see Dems still handwringing about either is absolutely ludicrous

Progressives are doing the right thing. If we let this bill pass without reconciliation, there will be no reconciliation bill. We can't let right-wing DINOs destroy the President's agenda.

Both sides seem intent on destroying the agenda at this point.

The $3.5T price tag isnt even that bad when you remember what should be said every single time it's brought up - that it's OVER 10 YEARS

It appears the $2.1T is in contention now and both sides are closer than they were at this point yesterday, so we'll see.

Great to see my fellow Bro shock troops taking over the party. We fight for Biden now!

Great to see Twitter hacks still purposely leaving out context and what else Biden said.

3.5 trillion was already a compromise and I'm against going down further and further. Especially if said reductions are at the expense of real climate action.

If so called moderates believe this is too expensive, they should be reminded what doing nothing against climate change costs in the end. And if you think about fiscal issues only short and median terms, maybe we can talk about stuff like 1) the military budget that is higher than the next 10 nations combined 2) taxing the wealthy and 3) emphasizing the fact Amazon, Facebook and alike don't pay a nickel in federal income tax.
We don’t have a choice here.

Unfortunately, this. It's gonna be this or nothing.

Q-Pac (which has been trash of course for years now), even has the $3.5T reconciliation bill at 57% support, 40% oppose.

Yeah, it's getting incredibly ridiculous that Manchin is just getting to call the shots at this point. That's not how this works.

My optimistic hope is that he's counter offering 1/3 so they can "compromise" on 2/3 and $2T. They can try for the third next year.

Or why can't they just lower the amount for all 3? Is it not possible?

Okay but Manchin and Sinema are never going to go for anywhere close to $3T, so I don't know what the point of pushing for it would be. It would go nowhere.

So now I'm seeing there's a self-imposed deadline of 10/31. If they can't make it by then, then this whole thing is just frankly ridiculous.

I really don't think they should rush by 10/31 just to help McAuliffe. First of all he probably wins regardless. If he loses, yeah that's bad but I'll take the trade over getting a better bill. Early & mail voting are already going on so the effect of 10/31 will be on election day in person basically.

Most of VA is going to vote that way though.

And I get that it shouldn't be "rushed", but let's be honest, Dems have had a LOT of time to do this, so Halloween shouldn't even be considered rushed at this point. This sh**t should've been done a month ago. They should be working 24/7 day in and day out on this to get this done ASAP, which is what is most frustrating to me.

The main problem here is that Manchin is not willing to be a part of the team. And he's willing to say that whatever he wants is literally more important than what 49 other senators want. The selfishness that goes into that is astounding. I get having leverage, but this is nothing more than a power trip.
