Schumer plans a vote on the bipartisan bill by the end of July, before August recess. He also plans for the senate to vote on the budget resoultion around the same time. The FY 2022 bill (reconcillation) probably won't pass until the Fall, but atleast progressives will have a blueprint and some idea where Manchin/Sinema currently stand

Question

Biden proposed a 6 trillion dollar budget, that doesn't inculde mandatory spending or interest payments

(The FY 2019 budget was 4.4 trillion. 2.73 trillion was mandatory spending and 350 billion was on interest payments)

Biden is asking for 1.5 discretionary funding, a big boost from Trump's 1.3 discretionary funding.

But Biden is also asking for a one time 1.8 trillion for families and 2.3 trillion for infrastrucutre, which would be spent over the next 5-10 years

Here is my question:

Biden has negioated with republicans to make the job plan to be 1.2 trillion, 579 billion is new funding. Where does the other 600 billion come from?

Thanks

I have seen this movie before.  Just like with Obamacare, the Democratic president and Congress bend over backwards to accommodate Republicans, and just when the rubber hits the road, those Republicans then start looking for reasons to back away from the deal:

GOP support for bipartisan infrastructure deal going wobbly
Democrats need 10 Republican senators to pass the bipartisan bill, but some are wavering.

Just wait -those same Republicans will then start accusing their Democratic colleagues of being overly partisan, and blame them for their eventual decision to vote against the infrastructure deal.

Bernie already said he isn't going for Manchin 2T in Reconciliation anyways, he said it's too small he wants 6T. So even if infrastructure passes, it won't pass the H without Reconciliation

Unless they combine it on an Omnibus spending bill at the End of the yr, but still the Reconciliation Bill will not pass without Bernie

I think that is very possible 1.25 infrastructure but not any Reconciliation

If they kill the bipartisan bill that they themselves negotiated, then the AJP as originally envisioned in full will just pass via reconciliation along with the AFP. They can try to stop it all they want, but nothing stops infrastructure from happening.

Biden and Bernie met on a 3.5 infrastructure spending bill and Manchin already said he isn't for nothing more than 2T

Manchin rejects Bernie's inflated 3.5T Reconciliation compromise too expensive

This is not what he said at all

Manchin did not reject 3.5T Reconciliation compromise
He told reporters on Tuesday he would only back an infrastructure package that was fully financed by tax revenue

If anything Manchin comments seem to be implying that he is all for whatever the Dems support as long as they use tax increases in order to make sure that the bill is fully payed for

*Expansion of benefits (e.g., dental, vision, & hearing), not expanding the eligibility age lower. (But still very good!)

Wow, a real beauty of a bill if early reports are to be believed. If they can pass this, Biden becomes the greatest American president since FDR.

Wasn’t he also saying he didn’t like tax increases. He’s just flailing for a reason to be concerned and then demand minor changes because Joe Manchin isn’t a bright guy and thinks being a pain is good government.

I’m guessing he’ll pull another last second hold up before giving in on a nominal concession he doesn’t even believe in and go back to patting himself on the back for being brave.

Apparently he's open to 3.5T but needs to "look more into it" whatever that means.

Keep this up. The furthest right people we need to negotiate with are Manchin and Sinema.

If you're on Medicare you can have dual coverage with Medicaid, and your dental is automatically paid for.

What isn't covered in Medicaid are implants, partials or Dentures, but Root Canals and Crowns are paid for, that's what needs to be covered so you don't pay out of pocket or extract your tooth

Preventive care is always paid for, Cosmetics and Orthodontist care isn't paid for, which are braces or false teeth

How would this be that much bigger of an achievement than what W did with Medicare Part D

Combine it with the American Rescue, vaccine rollout, and the Afghanistan withdrawal, and probably upcoming voting rights bill to save American democracy and you can make a really strong case.

Probably? Are you saying Manchin's going to nuke the filibuster or the parliamentarian will rule it doesn't apply to voting rights bills?

How is this permissible? Hopefully the parliamentarian shuts this down too as this clearly isn’t a budgetary item
