Wait, you’re telling me the blue ribbon committee chaired by Mitt Romney and Kyrsten Sinema and bankrolled by Joe Lieberman isn’t actually helpful?

With Manchin on board, Warner's "concerns" don't matter. Pass the trash compromise bill and the reconciliation bill by the end of the year.

Okay Manchin what are you gonna do when you don't get a single Republican to support it?

He's open to reconciliation so I don't think he cares in this scenario

Unwinding Trump Taxes would give you max $1T, probably even less.

Axios and others report there is potentially an advancement.

White House, bipartisan group agree on infrastructure framework

Quote
By the numbers:

  • $1.2 trillion over eight years, or $974 billion over five years
  • $559 billion in new spending
  • Package is fully paid-for

What they're saying: “White House senior staff had two productive meetings today with the bipartisan group of senators who have been negotiating about infrastructure,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement.

  • “The group made progress toward an outline of a potential agreement, and the president has invited the group to come to the White House (Thursday) to discuss this in-person.”
  • "There’s a framework of agreement on a bipartisan infrastructure package,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told reporters as she left the meeting Wednesday night.
  • "Republicans and Democrats have come together along with the White House, we’ve agreed on the framework and we're going to be heading to the White tomorrow," Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) told CNN's Manu Raju.

I hope the 'progressives' take this. The best Trump could get in a package was around $6 billion for waterways and/or ports. Talk about a small package!

Will progressive Dems in the House be OK with this? Also, if Bernie or any other progressive Dem in the Senate votes against this - will there be enough Senate Rs who vote in favor?

Those are major outstanding questions that need to be answered.

No new taxes to pay for it makes me incredibly nervous. As does the price tag being comparatively low. The group of Senators who negotiated this leaves me with little faith in the details of the plan, but I guess that remains to be seen.

The House shouldn’t even let this pile of garbage come to a vote unless the Senate passes a 4-5 trillion dollar reconciliation bill first.

Democrats need to stop kneecapping the progress the country actually needs to appease a handful of Republicans who are only interested in having the Democrats accomplish as little as possible.

I was for the larger infrastructure spending until Biden put out his 10 year budget proposal, and the deficit in the 10th year was still projected at $1.3 trillion.

I know there has been a lot of incorrect predictions and 'concern trolling' about deficits, but, seriously that level of deficit spending can't be sustained for ever.

It's terrible that Republicans get to cut taxes for their owners while Democrats have to be the adults, but somebody has to be the adult.

Also, get some success like this and the other things Biden has already achieved, get a larger majority and then repeal the tax cuts.

In new spending, this is almost 100 times larger than Trump's largest package.  There were other one off infrastructure projects Trump got, but when adding in the $250 billion or so 'compete with China' package, this is hardly as little as possible and is nearly 100 times what Trump got on infrastructure in total.  This is actually fairly massive.

It's not. America needs to rebuild a country that had its most crucial infrastructure built post WWII. It also needs to dramatically shift it's energy usage to more renewable sources as soon as possible. This bill on its own is not a great achievement.

Looks like Biden put together a hell of a deal. Bipartisan infrastructure package for the cable news morons obsessed with this kind of thing and a big, beautiful reconciliation bill to fill the gaps. Wonderful to have a true dealmaker in the White House again!

It is, but a number of states and private industries are working on renewable energy.  I assume states can use their relief spending for renewable energy if they like.  Also, it's not like some of this can't be in the budget which can't be filibustered and requires 51 votes to pass.
