If we retain both houses of Congress after this November (and increase our majority in the Senate) and we do another reconciliation bill, we should at the first opportunity undo whatever Faustian Bargain we made with Kyrsten Sinema on this bill -with the possible exception of the drought relief program.

There are currently 431 members.  A quorum is 216.  No Republican votes are needed for the quorum.

I assume a number of Democrats are also proxying.

They do. You have to understand that House Republicans are dumb as rocks.

It might be a better idea to have Sinema write the next bill if we get 51 Senate seats so we can cut Manchin out and get even more climate spending and maybe slip in the rest of BBB. If it's 52 sets then those two can be sidelined.

Not that this is the point, but I didn't realize Sara Jacobs was such a beautiful woman.

More pertinently, this proxy stunt is so hilarious. SCOTUS has shown no interest in McCarthy's fixation on this at all, and enough Republicans have to be there to be the proxies that it might well not result in a lack of physical quorum anyway.

Zero Democrats voted against the bill! Has there ever been a better vote getter than Pelosi?

Yeah, I posted that based on a screenshot before it actually closed.  There were still 14 R's not voting at that point

Out of curiosity; do we know how many members were actually present for this?

So does this open the act up to the possibility of getting struck down?

No. Even the current SCOTUS has shown no interest in McCarthy's anti-proxy voting whining.

I doubt it since the GOP last attempt at killing Obamacare using the court was recently overwhelmingly rejected even by Amy Coney Barrett and Clarence Thomas

The supreme court has basically made it clear that if Republicans want to repeal any major Dem legislation passed in congress they better not expect the court to do it for them

This comment makes me wonder: what other major pieces of legislation have passed on completely party-line votes in both chambers?
