There are Pell Grants for undergraduate with what happened to Student loan Discharged that's why Biden polls aren't what they should be, most people get into college debt not because of commuting to Community college but room and board ard in universities

We need both Student Loans Discharge and Free community college

If I had to cut something from BBB, it would be free community college only because its already free or close to free for most Americans.

Biden's free community college plan would cost 90 billion over 10 years

A much better idea would be to double or triple Pell grants and raise income eliglibty. When I went to college I got the max amount allowed for pell which was 3047 a semester. My tution was 4800 a semester. I had scholarships to cover the rest of tution and lived at home so I didn't need to pay for housing/meal plan. Otherwise I would need to get loans

I am a high school teacher now. I teach a future prep course. Most of my students, through research I instruct them to do, would probably go to a public university free or close to free. Its housing/meal plans that require thousands in loans.

The US currently spends 26 billion a year on Pell grants. Imagined if we doubled that number? Or tripled?

Free public college would cost 590 billion over 10 years.

Honestly 200 billion would make college free for the 60% poorest americans

California has Calgrants which basically makes College Free for middle to lower class Americans.

Students however have to have a 3.0 gpa to maintain eligiiblitly.

The reason why prices are going up because people are still getting Stimulus checks, Food prices in Cali are already expensive there isn't any Jewels out here to keep prices low like in Midwest so the stores like Green Apple, Whole Foods and Ralphs can jack up prices I spend 300 in food prices a mnth

But, people in Cali got 2400 EITC that's why there is inflation especially at restaurant it's 50.00 for a Uber meal

It's not just food, it's rents, and mortgages and property taxes you can get a box of food weekly at the local Pantry's

Manchin is such an idiot and so are the Republcians. Build Back Better didn't pass, the extended unemployment has ended mostly everywhere, the child tax credit monthly portion has ended. These were all their excuses for inflation. Obviously inflation is related to the supply chain disruption and low production during the pandemic and we just have to slug our way through to the other side.

"Democrats weigh suspending federal gas tax to cut prices at the pump while Biden's economic agenda is on ice"

Ha ha ha ha ha ....

Gas tax revenues are the source of funding for road infrastructure.  So now the Dems want to cut infrastructure?  Also, what are AOC and her Green New Deal gang's position on the gas tax holiday idea?

You forgot to mention corporate greed/incompetence/apathy

Lots of places raise prices more than they need to. I work part time in a home improvement store. Its been harder for the company to get lumber yes, but I did the math and they raised prices much higher, more than what supply chains required. That is just greed.

And they increased the military budget. They don't care about inflation or climate change.

If you read earnings reports or listen to earnings calls CEOs and CFOs are spiking the football about how much they can raise prices and how the consumers haven't blinked yet.

Manchin is back with a proposal of sorts:

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/03/02/joe-manchin-democrat-bill-taxes-00013246

Honestly, it is not even that bad. Not great, but could be a lot worse.

Yeah, as Democrats are running out of time.

I still hope Biden can get the public option passed, though I'm not that optimistic about it.

Is there a permanent extension of the increase and expansion of Obamacare once the American Rescue Plan law eventually expires?  It is not clear to me from the article.

I 100 percent agree with you because At this point, it's better to get something than to end up with nothing

This is the Dems last best chance when it comes to getting something done on climate change and if they do not take this deal it likely means that we will not be seeing any actions on climate especially if republicans take back power. Biden and Dems need to just swallow their pride and take the damn deal

The Democrats get another chance at reconciliation in September. Not that I would expect much.

Manchin says BBB is DOA until after the Election, it's a 303 map anyways with 4 percent unemployment but can we get wave insurance and keep the H that remains to be seen because we might not keep the H with just a 302 map with FL and TX losses

Clearly Evers was the weak link of the Mi, pA and WI and he has 51 percent Approvals that reassures Barnes and Fetterman get elected but OH and NC looks increasingly weak for Rs JD Vance says he doesn't care about Ukraine and Beasley can win NC is 20 percent Blk like MD and Pat McCrory is old news and Crist is surprisedly leading in FL, but as of now it's a 303 map still, since 2020

I'm highly skeptical. The guy blatantly and unapologetically lied to and questioned the trustworthiness of the President, even parroting GOP Talking Points in the process. Who is to say he won't do so again? I could even see him pledging his support for a bill crafted on this new framework, then backing out just before the vote - that's just how much of a liar he is.

Until and unless Manchin publically and explicitly apologizes for his previous sinful behavior, I will be endorsing a NAY on this very small reproduction of the amazing BBB legislation that Manchin probably doesn't even actually support himself.

The best chance they had was 2021. Ukraine is going to dominate the headlines for the next few months so all attention will be on aiding them. Then the summer and fall is campaign season so a lot of Senators and Reps will be hitting the road making it difficult to organize everyone in DC. Making matters worse, Dems have very slim majorities so they need everyone there all at once. After the election they can try to pull off a lame-duck bill, but if they lose the midterms, then Democrats have lost their mandate to govern and I wouldn't expect that attempt to go far.
