I’ve always tremendously admired Denis Healey. He and my username namesake admired each other greatly too - indeed the Howes’ first call as Chancellor was from Edna Healey warning that the kitchen at No 11 was prehistoric (an issue Mr Johnson seems to be facing too).

I wonder what Dennis Skinner thinks of him.

This happens to be good documentary, albeit posted by a slightly curious channel.

Big FF and indeed part of a Labour government for which I have a soft spot for a fair few of the ministers (Callaghan, Healey, Shore, Owen, Mason etc). Also, funnily enough given your thread on Powell, Healey was a Classicist too, so that’s another point in his favour.

I have a soft spot for many politicians of that era. I believe his speciality was aesthetics.

I remember watching that documentary - lovely to come across it again. Definite FF.

I wonder who would consider him an HP? I believe someone can be an FF even if you often disagree with them.

A Bennite perhaps - but he and Viscount Stansgate, as I insist on calling him, got on well personally it seems. A very partisan Tory who saw him as some sort of threat perhaps.

I'd rather hesitate to call anyone who approved the sale of arms to apartheid South Africa an FF.
