After 1988 happens as it did in the real world, Gore's son doesn't get hit by a car. He runs again in 1992 and this time wins the nomination. He picks Clinton as his running mate.

Huh Gore 314-224

Why would Gore do better in the South than Clinton?

In 1992, Gore seemed like much more of a conservative, southern Democrat than Clinton.

Are we assuming that Perot is in the race in this scenario?  If so, then maybe people should also predict the popular vote breakdown.

In 1992, the Gore family was still regarded as a southern democratic family.  Gore was still pro-life in 92 also.

I forgot about the pro-life thing but Clinton was MUCH more charismatic than Gore.  I'd give Bush KY, NC and GA.

He'd pretty much run as a traditional Southern sectional contender in 1988.

Better.  Most of the negative stuff Clinton had in that election, Gore didn't.

That would at least be washed out with the lack of charisma Gore has compared to Clinton.
