Christie still doesn't win the nomination.

That hug of Obama after Hurricane Sandy was going to come back to haunt him, even if Bridgegate is butterflied away.

And even if he did win the nomination, he'd lose the general because of decreased Republican turnout.

Republicans weren't going to vote for someone who hugged President Obama, period.

Christie was way too liberal for the Republican Party's base. As Governor, he raised taxes on gas, advocated stricter gun control laws and even said «  We already have too many firearms in our community », was pro-choice and even made donations to Planned Parenthood and in 2015 he supported Obamacare’s expansion of Medicaid.

And indeed, Christie's hug with Obama would have doomed him just like Charlie Christ's hig with Obama in 2009 or 2010 hurt him in the Republican senate primary in favor of Marco Rubio.

Chris Christie: 314 electoral votes
Hillary Clinton: 224 electoral votes

He wouldn't have won Wisconsin or Michigan but would've done better in traditional swing states before 2016 and would make New Jersey quite close.

Christie would have lost due to a deflated GOP base.
