Yaphet Kotto, an actor known for bringing gravitas to his roles across television and film, has died, according to his agent, Ryan Goldhar. He was 81.

Kotto died on March 14 at 10:30 p.m. local time in the Philippines, where he lived with his wife, Goldhar said. Information on the cause of death was not provided.

Kotto was best known for the roles of Dr. Kananga/Mr. Big in Live and Let Die, Idi Amin in Raid on Entebbe and Lieutenant Al Giordello in Homicide: Life on the Street.

It has been a horrendous year and some change for Bond Actors/Actresses. I think something like 8 different people have died since last Spring IIRC who played in one Bond movie or another, with the most high profile being Sean Connery of course.

RIP.

He was also ship's engineer Parker in the first Alien film ("It's a robot! Ash is a goddamn robot!"). Probably the most recent film I saw with him, only a couple of weeks back.

He also played a cop in one of my favorite movies, The Star Chamber.
