In German, „Gas geben“ literally means „to give/to apply the gas“.

Practically though, it means „to accelerate“ or „hit the gas pedal“.

The term clearly has a Holocaust reference and needs to be cancelled and should therefore no longer be used by sports commentators if an athlete is behind and needs to speed up and accelerate in time.

Given it was used in this campaign ad, yeah, it probably should be cancelled gradually in German.
