Top all Time:

1. Radiohead
2. ABBA
3. Kero Kero Bonito
4. The Beatles
5. Lemon Demon
6. Weezer
7. St. Vincent
8. Neutral Milk Hotel
9. Les Misérables - International Cast
10. MGMT
11. Sleater-Kinney
12. R.E.M.
13. Fastball
14. Fleet Foxes
15. Muse
16. CHVRCHES
17. Soundtrack/Cast Album
18. Les Misérables - 10th Anniversary Concert Cast
19. Steven Universe
20. The Flaming Lips
21. Les Misérables - Original London Cast
22. The Dresden Dolls
23. Andrew Lloyd Webber
24. David Bowie
25. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

27. Pulp
28. Oasis
29. The Magnetic Fields
30. Tom Waits
31. The Beach Boys
32. T. Rex

37. Amanda Palmer
38. The Avalanches
39. Elton John
40. Sigur Rós
41. "Weird Al" Yankovic
42. Outkast
43. Coldplay
44. Belle & Sebastian
45. Vasily Petrenko
46. Garbage
47. Pixies
48. Superorganism
49. The Postal Service
50. Bastille

I chose top of all time, because it's way funnier to remember what weird stuff you apparently once super loved back in the day. (Muse and Steven Universe being the obvious examples).

Some notes:

- I am quite a basic music listener, in that I tend to return to old favourites and listen them into oblivion - a lot of these bands and artists are in there because I was fascinated with only two or three songs (sometimes completely random ones, like an album track from Sigur Ros i listened to like a hundred times). This accounts for the insane level of Fastball.

- I've been involved in musical theatre productions, which explains the Les Mis and ALW.

- i make no apologies that my music taste leans towards fairly entry level hipster/mu stuff.

Actually a couple of bands in there that I don't even recognise, all testament of my ability to obsessively listen to some bands/genres for a while and then completely forget about them. Cowboys Fringants are a deserved top because they are the band I keep going back to.

I'm also kind of proud of how international that list is. Ten different countries in my top 10, although two Afrikaans bands in my top 5 of all time is... a little bit lol.

Lmao, I'm surprised their songs are still even available on stream.

What is Afrikaans music like anyway? I imagine Die Antwoord isn't entirely representative...

I'm pretty sure I haven't listened to them since the whole story broke - so I must have been listening to them a lot before it all happened for them to still be up there.

Most Afrikaans music is, predictably, country and folk about "back on the farm". Of the two I've got up there, Fokofpolisiekar are fairly standard rock/punk, but quite fun as they kind of play against traditional afrikaans conservative culture (claiming I understand a word they're saying, lol); and die Heuwels Fantasties are basically the same people, but playing more kind indie/pop stuff.

Going with the "last 6 months" list, which I think more accurately reflects my current taste:

1. Nirvana
2. Fall Out Boy
3. Paramore
4. Hawthorne Heights
5. New Found Glory
6. My Bloody Valentine
7. Jimmy Eat World
8. The Starting Line
9. The All-American Rejects
10. The Birthday Massacre
11. Evanescence
12. Sovereign Grace Music
13. A Day To Remember
14. Green Day
15. Boards of Canada
16. Pickin' On Series
17. Slowdive
18. The Cure
19. Cocteau Twins
20. Sunny Day Real Estate
21. Björk
22. blink-182
23. Pavement
24. ERock
25. Deftones

I cut the list off at 25, because most of the ones listed afterwards I haven't listened to in the better part of a year. I would remove Sovereign Grace Music (I only have like, two songs downloaded by them), ERock, and Pickin' On Series (cover artists that I also haven't listened to in the better part of a year).

Burzum didn't make any of the lists, surprisingly, despite the fact that I've downloaded all of Varg's ambient work. I don't think their algorithm is very good.

But, I've also been listening to a lot more dreampop/shoegaze and a lot less dungeon synth lately, so that might be why Slowdive and MBV are listed instead.

With the caveat that I only started using Spotify two years ago (and that, unlike my less lazy fellow bloggers, I cannot be arsed to type out 50 artists):

1. Pavement

3. Arcade Fire
4. Sufjan Stevens
5. Neutral Milk Hotel
6. Big Thief
7. Bon Iver
8. Fleet Foxes
9. Pixies
10. The Band

This seems very off. Like, I think I've listened to one Blasting Company album twice and have one of their songs on my "Liked songs" list, but somehow they're #15, ahead of Belle & Sebastian, who I listen to all the time? I'm not sure how they're calculating this, if it's by raw number of plays or some other metric. Or maybe I just don't remember what music I listen to. Entirely possible.

1. U2
2. Gipsy Kings
3. Bruce Springsteen
4. First Aid Kit
5. Green Day
6. Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox
7. Ramones
8. Balalaika Ensemble Wolga (lol)
9. The Beatles
10. The Head and the Heart
11. Pink Martini
12. Queen
13. The Shins
14. David Bowie
15. The Blasting Company
16. The Beach Boys
17. Katzenjammer
18. Belle & Sebastian
19. Anamanaguchi
20. The Rolling Stones
21. Amy Winehouse
22. Caro Emerald
23. Elton John
24. John Williams (the guitarist, not the composer)
25. Guns N' Roses
26. Coldplay
27. Madonna
28. Led Zeppelin
29. Jamie Berry
30. Playing for Change
31. Buddy Holly
32. Meat Loaf
33. Kesha
34. Fleet Foxes
35. Harry Belafonte
36. The Monkees
37. Parov Stelar
38. Weezer
39. Of Monsters and Men
40. Ivan Kupala
41. The Kinks
42. Buena Vista Social Club
43. My Chemical Romance
44. Deladap
45. George Harrison
46. Flight of the Conchords
47. Pearl Jam
48. Lady Gaga
49. Toots & the Maytals
50. Macklemore

I think a better representation of what I listen to is my all-time top tracks, which looks very accurate.

1. Your Light - The Big Moon
2. I Saw You Blink - Stornoway
3. Un Sueño en la Floresta - Agustín Barrios
4. Swan Lake, Op. 20, TH 12 (Arr. C. Debussy): Act III: Danse napolitaine - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
5. Sweet and Dandy - Toots & the Maytals
6. Mr. Blue Sky - Electric Light Orchestra
7. Csardas - Vittorio Monti
8. Judy is a Punk - Ramones
9. Outro - M83
10. It's a Shame - First Aid Kit

I guess it's skewed by my more recent Venditti phase, which started after I got Spotify, while my Chiara phase was before I got Spotify. If you reconciled my iTunes play count with Spotify, the list above would change radically

I mean that was the least of my worries in comparison to Al Jolson almost making the top ten and the Treorchy Male Voice Choir somehow being in the top 50.

Lol we don't have to see any more. Also this isn't 100% accurate because I have last.fm which tracks and shows individual streams, and it differs from this slightly. Anyway, let's be friends JGibson

I nuked my Spotify account last week — I initially created it linked to my Facebook, wanted to delete my Facebook account, and found that I had to create an entirely new Spotify account just to be able to log in without reactivating my Facebook account. Horrible design flaw, imo.

My top artist of the last week is Katie Pruitt.
