Other than Mormons being culturally and politically conservative, why is Utah so Republican, when Salt Lake City is now swingy in a sense.......

Being 86% non-Hispanic white, and having a decent Mormon chunk of the non-white population, helps, too.

The most liberal areas in Salt Lake County tend to be a bit whiter than the county as a whole, in fact. The pattern reverses in the south end of the county though.

Is there any other reasons?

Taxes? Does Utah have a libertarian bent?

Mormons were roped into the Conservative Protestant tent in the 1970s, and thus by extension the ascendant conservative wing of the Republican Party.

Utah's economy relies heavily on mining, ranching, oil and gas - all industries that favor Republicans.

Does Utah have a libertarian bent?

Absolutely not. At least, not the part where people live. It probably is the single most pro-"big government" R state in the country. The only one that could really come close is Iowa (and I've talked about the odd political similarities between Utah and Iowa before).

People frequently misinterpret Western states' willingness to vote for third parties and/or loosely rooted partisan divides as evidence that those places are "libertarian."
