I mean he has already been prosecuted, but I don't think they'll convict him.  There will be riots because a lot of people don't understand our legal system, and think burning down a 7/11 will change it.

And breaking into the capitol didn't change the election result, but that didn't stop your side from doing it. You have no room to make these cracks anymore.
Well the difference is the capitol was directly implicated in the counting of the votes, it is where the certification takes place.  There was a purpose.  But the looting and riots were random and wasteful.  It had nothing to do with their grievance.
Really brining out the white hood there eh?

There's a kernel of truth here: attacking a seat of power occupied by politicians (a group for whom there is little sympathy) was a smarter application of political violence than most of what was perpetrated by protesters in the summer. It was more likely to directly affect the power and less likely to engender sympathy for the power than setting fire to a shop because of the police.

It's easy to forget that the torching of the MPD precinct was much less controversial to begin with.

There’s no good way for this to end, either way half the country is gonna be furious and honestly as a resident of a diverse city I am terrified

But this is not a left-right issue. What Chauvin did is not conservatism. I have no idea why "some" elements of the right-wing attach themselves to people like Chauvin and other police officers whenever the subject becomes about killing black people.

Police killings are not indiscriminate. Their priorities indicate that those not killed have a certain status in the social hierarchy, and that the police are interested in protecting that status.

It's an ugly sort of fear, and not conservatism.  Many vote for conservative parties, however, to maintain status. The thinking going on here (to the extent that there is much going on at all) is just a much more demented version of that impulse.

Good grief. Retire pls

Weird statement but she’s not wrong

Sacrifice implies a voluntary statement of martyrdom.

She probably couldn’t think of the right word. The main point is that his death will bring justice to many people

What does that even mean? Chauvin is facing a degree of justice by getting a jail sentence. This does nothing for anyone else. Floyd was a real guy who died, this isn't entertainment.

It's a fairly high-profile instance of a police officer being held accountable to the law. It will, I hope, put the fear of that into the many would-be Chauvins elsewhere.

Why did so many people seem to think he'd actually get off? This jury was taken from one of the bluest places in the country; this isn't like past trials like this, they had video evidence. Unsurprising.

MN juries require unanimous conviction. My expectation was that the video evidence and coverage would cause partisanship and thereby prevent unanimity regardless of other political predispositions.

Yeah, let's not make "cop actions have consequences" into "Floyd death was good as it saves America". That feels really, really bad.

Can’t wait for the George Floyd = Jesus take

Remember, no matter how bad it gets, it can't top "Ruthkanda forever".

Why do they keep doing this?

In the girlfriend’s case, it’s understandable. She is trying to rationalise an event that caused much personal grief.
