So while I get that the ongoing double standard of calling right-wingers Nazis as opposed to left-wingers being allowed to be called communist pretty much as a blank slate, apparently now it's a violation of t o s to even call a right-wing poster of fascist. How clever.

https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2021/05/13/george-floyd-derek-chauvin-suspects-arrested-bloody-vandalism-santa-rosa/

The alleged vandals of that home where they believed a witness was, were arrested.
Happy to see some effort was placed in finding suspects for what some would just call vandalism. They aren't guilty yet of course but hopefully the trial finds out.

Chauvin's sentencing is today. The judge denied his attorney's request for another trial.

My guess is 20 years with no possibility for parole.

Surprised no one's tried to dox Chauvin's defense team, or maybe they did and I didn't hear about it?

Wouldn't surprise me if some wackos on twitter wanna abolish lawyers or something.

Wait what, isnt the minimum sentence 10 years. Like how can you ask for probation in that case

Beats me.

According to the WAPO livestream, Chauvin's defense team will argue that the time Chauvin has served is sufficient enough in regard to jail time.

Uh what like I think he was in jail for 4 months before he got bail and 2 months since the verdict which means hes been in for a total of 6 months so that means he still has 9.5 years left from a minimum sentence

George's nephew spoke in front of the judge, asking for the maximum sentence.

Update: Both of George's brothers ask also for the maximum penalty.

Sorry for 3 posts in a row, but the second brother of Floyd to speak asked for the maximum sentence, in addition to NO possibility of parole, probation, or an early release.

Quote from: 609.11(8 ) Minn. Statutes
"When presented with the motion, or on its own motion, the court may sentence the defendant without regard to the mandatory minimum sentences established by this section if the court finds substantial and compelling reasons to do so. A sentence imposed under this subdivision is a departure from the Sentencing Guidelines."

I don't know what sort of mitigators the Minnesota guidelines allow the court to consider for a downward departure but I'd assume that when it is their turn the defense will be presenting evidence of those asking the court to waive the minimum mandatory.

Chauvin's mother is speaking now.

Off the bat, I can tell the response to her speech is going to be overwhelmingly negative, to the point where she may need protection....

If she doesn't get doxxed online, I'll be very surprised.

Also a 15 minute recess, rest of the sentencing will begin at 2:45 CST.

What was that “more information will come out that will give you peace of mind” thing from Chauvin?

I feel sorry for his mom, nobody wants to believe this of their son.

When I fantasize about committing crimes (as we all do) something that always pops into mind is what my parents would think of me and how crushed they would be.  You devote your life to raising a boy, unconditional love and devotion and effort for decades upon decades, and then you find out he's actually a Derek Chauvin?  That all your life's work amounted to was a monster who murdered another man?  How can you believe that.  How can you accept that.  How can you not cling to any reason to believe it's not true.  I'm not going to bear any negativity towards his mother.

That said, the internet is full of monsters with no empathy and no humanity so I'm sure her life will be miserable for the next few weeks.

Earlier context to the main event?

There have been people who have gone as far as to cover up crimes for their children, so I'm not surprised at his mother's statement. Most parents love their children, but that doesn't mean they should excuse everything they do. Murder is inexcusable.

I know my parents sure wouldn't be happy if they saw a video of me smothering someone under my knee like that.

The amount of death threats she'll likely be receiving is just as inexcusable as Floyd's murder.

Even if she does receive threats I fail to see how it is equal to Floyd being murdered. She is not a victim here.
