So what charge is against Chauvin? They dropped the 3rd degree murder/manslaughter charge right?

There was a lot of clamor for 1st degree murder during the summer, but that would be a boneheaded decision that would lead to his certain acquittal.

If there is no guilty verdict, I have to say that I fear for this country. I'd also believe that the justice system has failed so much that it is virtually beyond repair. I certainly would not defend it. A verdict of not guilty would mean that police are above the law and that black lives do not matter. Either of those prospects make me sick to the core.

Manslaughter was always the charge most likely to result in his conviction.

No white people were allowed access to the area by local activists out of a supposed concern for the "healing" of the community

what

Not surprised

I mean he has already been prosecuted, but I don't think they'll convict him.  There will be riots because a lot of people don't understand our legal system, and think burning down a 7/11 will change it.

And breaking into the capitol didn't change the election result, but that didn't stop your side from doing it. You have no room to make these cracks anymore.
Well the difference is the capitol was directly implicated in the counting of the votes, it is where the certification takes place.  There was a purpose.  But the looting and riots were random and wasteful.  It had nothing to do with their grievance.

That's a nice way of legitimizing trying to overthrow democracy.

The left currently believe that if the left wing hivemind believes you to be guilty, you are guilty. No other proof is needed. And this type of thinking is supported by "moderates" such as Joe Biden.

Right. The video was a deep fake to cancel Derek Chauvin because of his famous profile that left-wingers hate. Derek Chauvin is a Republican superstar that the left has been plotting for years to take down.

There'll be riots if not all of the jurors are black. I've got a gut feeling about that.

The National Guard are already deployed and patrolling Minneapolis (like tons of reports of Humvees going around), so any attempts to start riots will be a lot different this time.

Prosecutors dismissed a potential juror who said he fears for himself and his family if his identity leaked.  Can't say I blame him.

Thanks man.  I know if I'm getting hate from you I'm doing something right.

They won't work out a deal so a trial will be held.  But when he gets convicted on a charge less than 2nd degree murder the world will explode.

The 3rd-degree murder charge being reinstated is a pretty big deal that shows where the case is going. In any event, it should hopefully help to prevent any widescale trial-related civil unrest from happening.

Manslaughter for sure. 3rd degree is also very likely. It's actually the second degree charge that I think appears to be the hardest to prove.

I'm no expect btw.

What is the threshold needed for conviction? Is it unanimity? Simple majority? Something in between?

Does Ramos v. Louisiana apply here?

Not directly, as Minnesota (and in fact all states aside from LA and OR) already required unanimity for criminal conviction.

Nah. That charge carries plenty of time. I won't say there won't be any protests whatsoever if he gets anything less than first degree, but it'll be Limited.
