Someone on the news is saying that there could be looting and destruction tonight in Minneapolis.
Why?
This would be awful. Please people of MN, don't ruin this day.

Sounds like Fox News. Honestly, it will likely be a repeat of November 7th.

This was the right decision, but hopefully our cities won't turn into flames tonight(though I worry it will still happen).

Thank Christ. I was worried Minneapolis was going to be razed to the ground if they didn’t throw the book at this guy.

Highly doubt it, people looked really happy outside the courthouse. There won’t be protests, and therefore no cover/excuse for people to loot/riot. Most who did that weren’t actual protesters who gave a s—t about justice anyway, just opportunists. Without the actual protesters out there in droves, they won’t be able to get away with it.

So the mob gets its pound of flesh. Good for civil strife at least.

Nothing but ignorance. This isn't about a mob, this about a murdered man getting justice.

Keith Ellison is giving remarks on the verdict. He certainly has been vindicated now, as he was the one who determined the charges that were to be laid against Chauvin.

Tracey is a joke

Well it is pretty hypocritical that the "abolish prisons" crowd now wants Chauvin to go to prison as long as possible.

I do not want to abolish prison and Chauvin certainly belongs there. Good thing we didn't abolish them earlier.

Good grief. Retire pls

Weird statement but she’s not wrong

Sacrifice implies a voluntary action of martyrdom.

She clearly misspoke with the “sacrificing your life” part; the intent was not wrong.

She probably couldn’t think of the right word. The main point is that his death will bring justice to many people

Floyd was murdered, he did not "sacrifice" himself. And no one should be acting like there's anything at all positive about this. It would have been better had it not happened at all. Chauvin going to jail makes it a little less bad but it's still bad.

Man I have to say I'm surprised.  I was definitely expecting him to get off.  I'm too used to police officers killing black men and then being let off by the juries.  Maybe this can be a turning point in a vicious cycle that has been happening for decades in this country, although Rodney King was the first really big national instance.

What does that even mean? Chauvin is facing a degree of justice by getting a jail sentence. This does nothing for anyone else. Floyd was a real guy who died, this isn't entertainment.

Oh my god I didn’t believe they’d get guilty on anything

Ngl when you posted the “5” I thought you meant “Option 5” in the poll (not guilty of 2nd degree murder)

I would’ve agreed with you, General MacArthur, and others expecting a Not Guilty verdict had this happened pre-COVID.

Killing of George Floyd. It was originally Death of George Floyd but in the next day was updated.
