Why did Ron Kind hold on to his house seat while other Democrats in Trump districts were losing?

Because (1) Kind is a longtime incumbent and not nearly as offensive and out-of-touch with his district as, say, Rohrabacher and Sessions, (2) Van Orden was kind of a dud and his geographical base was mediocre, and (3) R messaging wasn’t great.

Republicans didn't really contest the district after their prefered candidate refused to run.

Who was that? I didn't think Van Orden was that bad.

Aside from Peterson, all of the Democrats who lost were freshmen who were not yet entrenched, while Kind has been in Congress for over two decades. And MN-07 is a lot more Republican than WI-03.

Republicans wanted State Senator Patrick Testin to run against Kind, but he declined and after that the NRCC never really prioritzed this race.
