As someone who is surrounded by these people almost every day and who has experience "interacting" with them on the campaign trail, I assure you that the voters we’re talking about here couldn’t define "neoliberalism" if their lives depended upon it. Yes, voters who base their decision on ideological and policy-related preferences exist and need to be targeted to the fullest, but never underestimate for how many it’s just about identity. Emily Cain's platform/voting record could have been identical to Jared Golden's to a T and there’s still absolutely no way she could have replicated his success in 2018. Don’t overthink it.
